The .257 weatherby is a good caliber, it's fast and has good knock down power, I have shot 1 whitetail and a pronghorn, an it did a great job on both.

If it looks like mine... I guess that I'd love it.

Great calibre as well....just up buy a bit when looking at rounds.
The lowest cost weatherby ones are a bit fragile.

hiya!
well first off its a ideal flat shooting light recoiling round. and if your handle says you are a 7mmultra kinda guy then those two calibers would tackle every situation in north American and 99% of Africa.
if your not into reloading then you will spend more on bullets...
buy it up...or some else will...then you can join this elite group of shooters listed below in this link...(talk about peer pressure!!).

Prob the only magnum I would ever want to own. Reloading is super beneficial to this calibre!

Funny...guys ask folks here what they think...basically hoping folks will tell em what they want to hear....buy it.

If you hold true to the pattern your next thread will be one looking for advice on how to tell your wife that you just bought another new gun.

For that I suggest saying it with flowers

Congrates.... you should enjoy it....mine is a laser.

BDB- your first statement is probably right. Your second one maybe not so much. Why would anyone want to tell their wife every time they run out and buy a gun. That's just a good way to end up getting divorced. Sometimes what they don't know don't hurt.

Default 257 wby

I have had at Least one 257 wby for as long as I can remember. They are just incredible on deer. The shorter barrel on the vanguard is a little dis advantage.
They 257 is easy to load for hardly any recoil and very flat. I have had a couple of vanguards in other calibers they all shot really good.
I usually always loaded a 117 hornady and r-22.
I haven't bought wby brass in a lot of years. I just take 264 win mag brass an make it into 257 wby brass. I have an extra sizing due that I lathed a little off the bottom. Works great and you don't have to buy wby brass. It also doesn't hurt as much when you loose the odd piece. Plus they end up a little shorter and don't have to trim.

thanks guys for the info. Will try to find dies for it and make up some shells for it. I also have a 25-06 so I have plenty of bullet to choose from. Does anyone use 100 grain Barnse TTSX bullets for their 257, and how are they working?

for some reason mine likes the 80 grain ttsx more, best results so far w/ rl-22 pushed to about 3750 fps, not quite to factory speeds but plenty enough for whitetails.

It's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. Said by a wise lady at the gun counter at Barton's. lol

My fault for marrying a girl that can count.

It doesn;t help that hers are stored alongside mine either.

I used 100gr TTSX in mine on a few deer when I had one. They worked very well. I sold the rifle along with a pile of the loaded ammo to a buddy and he's killed a lot of stuff with it and it's worked good for him. I pushed em at 3550fps with Retumbo. But if I was to do it again, I'd probably use RL25.

I agree on necking down 7mm rem mag or 264 win mag brass. Much better price and the brass comes out good.

Default 100gr TTSX

The 100gr TTSX is the best shooting bullet out of my 257. I am away at work so I can't say for sure what amount of 7828SSC I use but it shoots great with those bullets. PM if you want load data. You are going to really like your new purchase!
