Default Bringing brass back.

Is it possible to bring reloading brass back across the US border?
I'm flying down to Vegas on Wednesday and flying back Sunday.
Can I bring back unprimed brass?

I don't believe so. I am of the understanding that you would need an export permit from the US side of things.

Not legal according to US laws.If you are caught on the US side, you will likely be prohibited from entering the USA in the future.

Smile I just mailed it

I'm not an expert, but I have tried to read and understand the US laws on this topic. I'm still not sure what they mean. I just bought the brass I wanted and mailed it to myself and there were no problems. The way I figured it, if the American's didn't want me to have it they could stop the letter, ditto for the Canadians. No one cared!

I figured that this was a no risk method. I told the US mail person what was in the package, she didn't care either.

Tell us what you do.

This again!

Brass is an ITAR regulated item.
To legally export it from the States you require an Export Permit, and an Import Permit.
To even be in possession of the Brass as a non resident was illegal!

Just because at the time in your specific case you never got caught doesn't somehow make it legal!

The US has its own rules that many dealers and US citizens have no clue about too.

As for Canada Customs giving a care, of course they don't they only worry about Canadian laws and rules!

I'd call myself a lucky SOB, and smarten up!

Way back before the Obama-nation occurred.....I order 500+ peices of BHA Match .223 brass off of E-Bay.....they came in two separate Fedex Envelopes, taped with duct tape to high heck....

No way I would try that one again with todays laws/regulations!

Smile How I did it

Just to save you a few bucks and help convince some of my colleagues here, I'm not as dumb as they may think. I bought and payed for the brass on line. had it mailed to one of my doggy friends and he mailed it to me. I'm not sure that the rules are clear at all, the regulations mention Rwanda and Afghanistan and in some instances says NOT Canada.

I can see why a small vendor doesn't want the hassle but I can't find any one who was ever taken to court except a guy shipping a car to Bosnia with an 870 in the trunk. I think he got a 3 month ban for exporting stuff.

Do what you want, I always do!

The rules are clear enough that most of the larger mail order houses stateside won't sell a lot of firearms related stuff to Canadians!

Just because you've slipped stuff through an enforcement crack, don't go beating your chest over it!

Come on Dick, let's give Densa44 a chance to gloat over his score.
It's been six months and I'm still thrilled that Brownells' slipped up and mailed me some cotton cleaning patches! ;-)

I'm happy he got his brass.
It's that when the next guy gets nailed with Persona Non Gratis status from the US Govt. thinking he was just doing the norm. Kinda grates my gears.

Make no mistake about it, I dislike ITAR.
I Dislike that a lot of stuff not covered by ITAR is not shipped, because if fear.

I however don't want to see some miscreant soul get their nuts in a vice over bad information floated, by folks who think that getting lucky once in a while makes things legal suddenly.

No it probably wasnt.

That being said it gets rather old, rather quickly when someone chooses to misinform someone asking a legal question. I share the same sentiment with Dick284 and as he has summed it up rather nicely I don't think I need to say more.

The laws are quite clear. Feel free to keep bragging about getting away with violating US federal laws if you must, but don' t try to convince anyone that what you are doing is legal.
