Default Moose hunt 2013

Well the last weekend of September found us peace country bound for moose camp.
Already we had a successful year with dad filling his antlerless elk draw and I was able to fill my antlered elk tag.

Moose camp started great but after battling the rain and wolves for 5 days with next to no moose sign we found some decent country and fresh tracks. On the last evening of our hunt dad (Conan) was able to fill his antlered moose draw on a pretty decent bull. 80 yard shot with his 7mm Rem Mag and 160 grain TSX doubled lung pass through only let this boy go 20 yards before tipping over.

While butchering out this bull we found a bullet in his hind quarter all healed and fine except for a half inch puss pocket holding the bullet I would say the wound was 1-2 years old.
Lead core bonded bullet....looks similar to Accubonds I have found in animals I have harvested before

Know challenge really just coming into cow moose calls.
I had one come into 5 ft ...seen him on the other side of this slough ...I decided not to shot cause I didn't want to get wet to get him then I cow called again and the the bugger ran through the water .....must have known a high spot through the cattails and all I could see was the cat tails moving and glimpses of black I was only about five ft from the cattails then he popped out and seen me and was gone before I could make a shot ...Iron sights I would have had him forsure ....nice sized black male.
Dads kind of challenged him stepped out on a cutline and wouldn't leave after seeing him ....it died from copper poisoning.
The last pack was seen circling while calling

Seeing that moose lying there, I got a wiff of stinky moose.
I'm sitting on the couch, strange how the nose knows

Well, I'm not sure if I share your taste in cologne, but congrats on your trip just the same! Sound like your freezers going to be nicely stacked for the winter.
