Default Meier Gun Auction - Prices?

I am mulling over the idea of taking in the Auction at Meier in Edmonton on Aug 31st, and possibly selling a gun or two there.

Have any of you sold guns there, and if so what kind of prices did they fetch as compared to selling them privately?

And obviously I am aware of the commission charged.

I thought about and enquired, first 5 they take 25% so if you got a smokin deal or don't want the hassle it would make it simpler.

I must not have made myself clear.

I know how much the commission is.

My questions is what type of prices do guns typically fetch? Do people get caught up in the moment and pay near retail or do they go for real cheap and the sellers lose their arse?

I have...lots of times.
And I'll be there on the 31st.

It really depends on what you are selling.
I've only lost money in a gun once but...it was still a fair price for a used gun.
Send me a PM and I'll give you a gun by gun estimate of what to expect.

They nick you about 25% until you break a thousand and then a sliding scale kicks in...they take a lower percentage if you sell lots.

Here's a suggestion...go on the 31stand look see how it works.
Then if you want to still want to flip a couple...there will be one in Clyde and another in Wainwright in October....and they work pretty much the same way.

People tend to over spend.
But it is a crap shoot.
If there are 30 Lee Enfields in the mix.... the prices will usually start low...then go up
And nobody want to be the consignor of the first or especially the last one sold.

No... but you do need to regeister and get a bidder number at the office or whatever they have set up.
At Meiers...the office is through the first door as you enter the compound.
Just have some ID handy and your PAL or RPAL.

Also don't forget that there is a buyers premium and tax.

So...every dollar you spend is actually 1.15 plus GST.
Its easy to get carried away and forget that.

If you do...and it turns out you can't cover your bill... its bad news.
You end up on the bad buyers list...and that black balls you all over the province.

That happened to a guy after the last gun auction there.
He racked up about 3 grand in purchases and didn't have the coin.
Cash debit or credit card. No checks unless they OK it in advance.

See ya there.

Oh...forgaot to add.

I was down there again the other day and I saw a few more of the guns.

They have a few nice ones...a spanish SxS shotty that is chambered for 3" and in great shape...really nice wood... a couple of nice yote rifles a couple of BLR 81's and some collectables.
A deactivated Bren gun, a belt fed 50 cal and a couple of stens...a few rareish Lee Enfields and one Long Branch that is full wood and all original, one all original German Army Mauser....with the right stamps although I do not know the exact year of manufacture..a browning trombone and a remington model 12 22LR.

There are always junkers and parts guns at these auctions as well but he seems to have a pretty good selection. I haven't seen everything though...just some stuff that was being catalogued while I was there.

Does anyone know what the BLR's went for?

Not bad actually.

One looked very used but had a descent looking Leupold on it and the other looked brand new...had a crap scope but the rings and bases were worth a few dollars.

Popular rifles.
There were probably only 2 or 3 things there that sold for more.

Sounds like there are going to be two gun auctions in Edmonton now, with Haines relocating there. Be interesting to see what a little competition brings.

Whoa! They take 25% from the seller AND charge a buyers' premium?! Holy hokey ripoffs. A local auction mart tried doing that a couple years ago for farm sales but the practice was stopped presumably due to the lower numbers in attendance.
