Dog crates/boxes
Looking for one, sick of cheap plastic ones for $100 that warp and crack.
Would like aluminum or one like ruff tough kennel type.
Anyone know of Canadian retailers for quality dog box?
I priced shipping on 2 ruff tough kennels from states, shipping alone was over $400. Need a different route.
I have seen the zanger metal ones, but $500-600 each is tough to swallow since I need two. Ideally I'd like 2-300 a piece max.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I am looking at the ruff tuff kennels as well. They seem to hold up really well and take alot of abuse. They will probably be easier to move than a big aliminum one as well.
Who did you talk to about ordering and how big did you want to go?

Gun dog supply.
I emailed rough tuff about Canadian retailers but they didn't bother responding.
I think intermediates. Maybe large.
Shipping stateside is a possibility but I just can't find time to make it happen.
Best solution though, as free shipping in us.

You should look at lion country supply. I just did 2 intermediate and was quoted $30 to ship.

Custom made
There are people training dogs here in Alberta who have kennels like you describe that were custom made. Maybe some of the members here can do it for you.

I believe Owens makes a kit that includes all hardware you just need to add plywood for the walls.
A member built one a while back for her 2 chessies and liked it.

I bought a zinger winger aluminum kennel last year. The kennel was pricey but I don't think the shipping was too bad. It came from Ontario I think.

I really like the idea of the ruff tough ones, I think they are only like 25lbs. I double checked with gun dog supply and yes $414 just for shipping. The problem is that they can only ship it UPS expedite.
I emailed Lions supply for a shipping quote.
Zinger was the one I was thinking of before, $550ish plus $50 shipping from what I can see. Just a bit high for two dogs. Be nice if they came with all the options for that price, but I guess they have to eat too...
I have thought about custom making my own, I have the ability, just lack the time. I'd imagine labour/materials to build one would be high enough to buy a store bought one.
panamajr, do you have any examples/prices of ones you have built before? Might as well post it here, could drum up more demand.
I have seen the owen plywood one, just not a fan of plywood if something happened. Look at the ruff tough getting thrown out of the back of a truck, I can't imagine plywood would last very well.

I bought a electric containment fence from Gun Dog Supply a couple of years ago, and their customer service was awesome! I would imagine shipping a crate from state side would be very expensive! I am going to watch this thread, as I could use a new crate as well.

crates
Just gave my insulated steel home built 3 hole box away to a fellow trialer. Materials probably a couple hundred bucks and a lot of work.
Replaced it with one from state side $1000 and it isn't the top of the line but is a quality aluminum built one from creative sports. That was with out freight.
Anything under that for a 3 hole box you had better stay with plastic or build your own. If you stay with plastic go to Wal Mart....puphood1

Talk to Mark at Quest Fabricators. He built 12 for us and they were about 1150 for a bank of three. Not sure how much if you want individuals. Even if you paid $450 each there would be minimal shipping. You will have a tough time finding anything under 400 that is any good.

Do you guys have pictures of your custom made ones?
What is the thickness of the aluminum?
I wonder where a guy could get that HDPE to line it.

I really like the look of the d style kennel from diamond delux and the price seems really reasonable. Maybe if we could find a couple of people interested we could split on the shipping
