Leech: my first fly post as I have only been tying a few mnths.
This is a killer trout pattern. It's not my design though.

Looks good to me, I would guess most tier's look for a small finished head, can't even see yours, so it's all good!! One of the reason's, an appropriate colored thread is cool.

Thanks again PG.
This was my 3rd attempt...1st 2 weren't wrapped as well by the head.
It's body is wrapped with brown wire as well.
It's a sweetheart of a leech pattern for sure.
Oh btw....I've said it b4 and I'll say it again.....This is the coolest thread on AO......I hope it stays alive.

You are correct sir. Following this thread almost makes me want to delve into this art form of fly tying. If I didn't have another hobby that consumed so much time I probably would. Seems to be some fantastic tyers around here that a guy could learn from. Maybe some just up the street hey PG

Thanks for those kind words. When I learned to tie in the late 50's Dad and Gramps would not let me go fishing unless I could tie the pattern I would use properly. Sportsman's Cigarette packages where my guide as there where not a lot of books back then as guides.

After much searching and trial and error, I've settled on a Damsel pattern.
Has the action I'd hoped for, plus easy to access materials, oh yeah, the fish love it!!!!!! It is an amalgamation of all the Damsel patterns in "Fly Patterns for Still Waters" by Philip Rowley.

Yep, 20's these old eyes are starting to get a bit tired though at that size. I usually bring out the magnifier.

Funny how there is always the newest and greatest in flies that are the rage. I do love tying and fishing old classics. Slip em a "mickey" Mickey Finn that is.

You never really understand how to tie a pattern until you tied 5 dozen of them.
