Default Elderly Walmart greeter peppers prayed in spruce grove

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/walmart-gre...ml?.tsrc=yahoo

Lowlifes at it, stealing car audio equipment and a car battery from Walmart.

Atleast they got caught, and better they used the dog spray then physically assault or shove her out of the way I guess..

Now that they are in custody I think the little old lady should be allowed to pinch their ears and give them the whooping the deserve

Some people's children... Like they couldn't have just outrun her. No need to assault her. Glad they were caught!

Fitting punishment? Spray them with a flamethrower.

It really was only a matter of time.
Walmart shouldn't be using the elderly... most of whom are pretty frail looking to do their security work for them.

To be honest... I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often given the number of low lifes out there stealing stuff.
I suppose most just out pace the greeters and dash off.... pretty scummy.

You are dead wrong

The "greeter" is not security. As a matter of fact they are told not to interfere beyond reporting it if they see any theft going on. I applaud Walmart in the fact that they are willing to give the elderly and the infirm a job in such a capacity. Not too many places retail or otherwise would consider most of the greeter's you see for any position at all........

Walmart greeters are indeed there for a security purpose.

Walmart even admits it.

The mere presense of greeters has been shown to reduce theft significantly.

Note that Cabalas also uses the greeter system.

As for a greeter actually stopping a thief, that is a different issue

Mind you, I would not want to mess with a greeter at Cabalas in Texas or Arizona. You don't know what might be under that wooden desk.

I never said that they do not have a security purpose, I said they are not security....... As you stated, the mere presence of greeters has been shown to reduce theft, its a far cry from saying 'hi how are you' to tackling a a thief...... Every store employee has a security purpose.............

Yeah... that must be why the greeters are asking to see reciepts then.... Shake your head.... no wait we won't be able to get the chit stains off the walls.

Of course they aren't security per se... so why are the performing security roles?

Bottom line is that it is nice that they employ them.
It isn't nice that that employment seems to come with an expectation that they will check for reciepts.
An activity that is more likely to place them in conflict than would happen if they just said... have a nice day.

And it isn't just this one store... every Walmart I've ever been to has greeters that check for reciepts.
We all know it so unless you have a horse in the race... why make the obvious a point of contention?

I was getting checked out at my local Walmart once, when Forest Gump's no-good cousin came in and started yelling at the whole store. Something about a pitbull that someone had left tied up outside; he said it was trying to bite people. But he just kept yelling about it in the most drunken way possible until the 90 pound grandma greeter came and told him off.

Would've been funny if I wasn't afraid for her life. I stayed close while the two traded insults and at one point I thought I was gonna have to clobber him, but he finally backed off.

Tough old lady

My wife's a department manager at a Walmart so I get to hear lots of stories.

Walmart associates are not allowed to attempt to apprehend thieves. In fact, even if they know that they are stealing something no one's allowed to go near them until they leave the store and then only security is allowed to approach them but not attempt to apprehend them.

Professional shoplifters know the system and wouldn't have done this. They would have simply walked out but they would have had stolen plates on their truck.

Awhile back they reviewed the security tapes of some thieves to get the license plate number of their truck. The plates turned out to be the store manager's that were taken off of his car.

As for the Greeters checking receipts...........here in Peace River that does not happen - I was used to it from the States - but they in no way ever try to act like Security.

Costco and Sam's Club (part of WalMart) in the States also has you show the receipts as you exit - there they count the items in your basket/on your trailer then mark the receipt with some colored marker vertically - they check the number of items in the basket against the receipt since neither place bag in the States.

Our Walmarts in the States used to ask to see a receipt as you exited the store but they never looked at them just hold out the receipt and you were told to have a nice day.
