Default Where can I get lead for bullets

I've been looking around for lead to cast some bullets but have had no luck. Does anyone know where I can get some or does anyone have any 44-40 bullets in .429 they want to sell.

Try your local tire shop, I get lots of wheel weights from my local offroad shop. The wheelweights work well for my 45 LC's and 44 magnums. I give about 10 cents a pound for it. There is some unusable weight as in the clips but its economical and works for me.

I never thought of that, thanks 460. How about lead from batteries would that work also or would the acid make it to unsafe to use

X2 don't do this.

Make friends with your local shops. Kinda slow for tires right now but spring and fall picks up quite a bit of used weights. Been saving mine for a local now. One question for those of you more experienced, how do you find the stick on weights are for use?

More and more tire shops out there are going to lead free weights. So I would go out and get as much as you can now. In the next couple years all that will be left is steel and zinc wheel weights.

Depending on where you are in the province, you can buy plain or blended lead & tin or Lyman #2, from Western Metals in Calgary--at market price though. Stick-on wheelweights are usually good lead, but is plain lead and will have to have some tin added. If you go looking for wheelweights, take a magnet with you, and watch out for ones marked Zn, don't want anything magnetic or the zinc ones. Commercial truck tire weights are, usually, still the ones you really want. Once you have sorted a few, bouncing them will tell you what they are by the bounce and the sound. Zinc & iron won't melt, just float to the top, as long as you stay at under 700deg. Look at the brand markings on the weights also, there are some brand markings, you can sort out right off the bat. You'll figure that out pretty quick once you get into a big bucket.

-check out cgn as they have a really good sticky on melting and casting; i believe is is on the top of their reloading section.

-yes, don't dick around with lead in batteries unless you have a slow death wish

-if you want to get lead from tire places, get it now as i have heard the same thing from the garages about the trend to use metals other than lead for tire weights anymore.

Another possibility would be to check out the indoor shooting ranges where lead from pistols is dumped back into a pool of water just in front of the backboard. The range that I shoot at in Claresholm has such a lead catcher, it's full of pistol lead. It might be that preference is given to members, but it could be a good source for you if they're willing to give it up. Battery lead? I would have to agree that it may be a bad idea with all that acid and stuff.
