Thanks, everyone, for having the ? to post your experiences. I've been handling guns for a long, long time but these stories still serve to snap any unnoticed complacency that crept in when I wasn't looking.

i closed an over under and a 20 gauge went off instantly! the only thing i can think is that the primer was seated incorrectly or something.

scared the bejesus out of me!!!! i always close my actions very carefully now

i still shudder thinking about how it could have been my foot or worse, someone else's

terribly sorry about the accident.
Thanks everyone for the reminders and the stories.

I once saw a guy getting into a car discharge up into the sky, I guess trigger caught on winter closing.

Another time, I was new to hunting. I was sitting in the rear seat of a car. Another guy (actually a guide!) climbs into the front seat and his shotgun points at me. I object. Both him and my buddy say - or it's an exposed hammer gun, the hammers are down, so it can't shoot. I didn't know anything about those guns back then, so I shut up. I hate my buddy for that incident.
