700 will be a bit heavier. Nothing wrong with the 550. We been pulling moose and elk out of the bush with 400-450 Kodiaks and Honda Foreman.
I was tempted on the 550 for a new machine myself as my buddy is a dealer, but I an know leaning towards a Rhino for me and the family.

Basically same machine, 700 has a bigger bore, same crank and transmission. The 550 will not be as hard on CV axles, but if the rider knows how to control the little lever under your thumb, then the 700 works well. 550 is quite peppy too @37hp, 700 @45hp.
When the 660 and 450 came out I got the 450 and glad i did. The 660 has enough torque to break the axles, 450 i know i can pin it and nothing will break, kinda important when you hunt 40km off the road.

Why buy a 550 when the price for a 700 is essentially the same? My 700 is like a tractor when i comes to pulling. I love it!

Everything is pretty much the same except the 700 has more power, and costs slightly more. I have a 700 myself, and if I had to buy another ATV, it would be another 700 Grizzly.

!
I'm going to get one of the two within the next 48 hours, I'm just really torn. Probably a 700 because I want to get a track kit on it for winter.
I just know it's heavier... has anyone run one in the snow with tracks on it? I'm looking to replace both an old quad and an old skiddoo this way.

The 700 and 550 both weigh the exact same. The engines are exactly the same except for the bore and induction system. 648 lbs wet weight.

Interesting.
I wonder how much you notice the power difference.

Get the 700. As I posted earlier both weigh the same but the 700 has a considerable power advantage. The 700 has better axles over the 660 and if you run stock tires you won't have an issue. I have a buddy that runs 28" mudzillas on his 700 that he beats it and hasn't broke an axle yet.

Side by side in a drag race it's a fair margin but when pulling or playing in the mud the 700 really outpaces the 550 by a large margin.

Would you be intersted in a 2007 Grizzly 700 with about 2000 kms and never been swamped or abused?

Depends on the price, I have a pretty amazing deal on a 2012 lined up.

700 hands down.
If Sparky sells you his, it will be perfect. Trust him.

If going to run tracks, the 700 would be the better option for more power.
At least you will have the reliability of a Yamaha.
