Thumbs up How many acres needed to shoot a .22?

Hey guys, does anyone know much land is needed before you can shoot a .22 on it?

A guy at work has a coyote issue and he's got 5 acres. I offered to take care of it, but am not sure if I have to use my bow or my .22.........

Cheers

5 acres is plenty for a 22 depending on how close his neighbors residence, and or livestock are located.

I checked out the landowner's layout and he has neighboring homes on all sides but for one - but that side has a highway bordering it unfortunately.

Really depends on whether he would like to remain friends with his neighbours or not. A wise course of action would be for him to talk with them and make sure they are cool with you taking care of this coyote problem.

If you have permission on the property you're shooting on and you're more than 200 meters from where you don't have permission then you're good. Otherwise you need permission from the neighbours.

Definitely good by the 200m rule, and the one neighbor was out blasting something with his .22 last weekend......can't see any issue with them not wanting the coyotes destroyed with extreme prejudice; but yes it's a valid point.

What was once an odd sighting far from the home has become 2 visits to his yard by at first a lone coyote a week ago and now just this morning two large ones had his dog sized up and likely about to be attacked. It's only a matter of time before something happens unfortunately.

In a small area like that, I'd be 100% sure of your backstop. 22lr are slow and they riccochet. If you've ever shot at anything off a frozen stubble field you'll know just how far that little piece of lead can skip. If it was me, I'd be planning a full camo coyote ambush with a bow!

Some counties have restrictions on discharging firearms. You might want to check it out.
