Contact Jim at trapper education at ATA in Westlock or through their website. He can steer you to the scheduled courses. Your other option is Trapper Gord College in Debolt. Check and see if there is a trapping local in your area and attend a meeting if you can. Best of luck
Attending the courses that they offer is a good idea and you will have a good time doing it but you can also purchase the book and challenge the test.
I believe the courses offered through the ATA are around $350 and gord's course is around $700
Any FW office should have the trappers book to buy. If you fell confident after studing the book you can also go into the FW officew and challenge the trappers test. Thats what i did think you need 75% to past.
In Jim Mitchell's last newsletter he said Bill Albercrombie (Bushman Inc.) is starting the same type of school as the old Dave Unger college which now is called Trapper Gord's Wilderness College. If you are close to Edmonton maybe Bill can help. Or you can study the SRD manual and challlenge the test.
The Peace River Local is starting to plan a course for April 6,7&8. The fee is 388.50 which includes a manual and a 1 year membership to the ATA Pm me if you would like more info. If you have PM'd me before I will be getting in touch with you soon.
where would a guy buy a license? i did my course back east a few years ago how would that work in alberta? is there somewhere i could go and buy my trapping license like i could with any other license?
Sorry Bud but this is not back east. Like a drivers licence, you have to prove you know something about what you want this licence for...it's just that easy...

Got no problem proving it. Their was no questions asked when I bought my hunting license only if I took my hunters safety course anywhere in canada didn't know if it was different for a trappers license I got my cards saying I got the course
Then, what I would do, is go to your nearest Fish & wildlife office and ask them if you can challenge the test. That is the simplest thing for you to do...
