Question Two part question about bears.

So i am still waiting to find the bear of the quality I am looking for. What season provides the best fur quality for rugs?? Next part how have you south bear hunters made out in 400 and the porkies for spring bear hunts???

i havent done a spring bear hunt yet but last fall my buddy took a great bear in 400. Good luck.

If you want a bear with 6" of thick fur spring is better,If you want one with short thick fur than late fall.

Spring bear has the longer hair,but that being said you run the risk of taking a bear that has started to rub...making for thin spots. Fall bears have a nice thick coat but not as long as the spring bears. Never done a fall spot ad stock. But have had them come up under my stands in early bow season.

Spring bear hunting is much more enjoyable once you have downed the bear, n they are easier to call/bait in the spring because they are all very hungry from being stuck in a hole all winter. In fall they are fat n greasy. gutting n skinning them is much more of a pain.. The only thing i really stress in the spring is watch them for awhile to make sure there is no cubs..! n go out a little later in the season due to the young bears wake up n go out first..
