I didn't think coyotes killed full grown deer.

I guess they do. Here's another one caught on film: (suggest you turn off the dippy sound and ignore the Disney caption)

you better beleive they do, in fact they generally do it a great deal in the winter time, deep snow+ crust on top means deer can't run away from coyotes. That is one of the big reasons why there are a lot fewer deer this last year in a number of zones out eastern alberta anyways. Shoot as many as you can!

In a tough winter they push the mortality WAY up, they are one of the reasons why farmers will actually have deer come into the yard (assuming the farmer doesn't have a big dog) as the coyotes aren't as likely to come into the yard, something about farmers shooting them or something . This year thankfully the deer get a winter for recover assuming of course we don't get some huge deep spring snows and the fawns have a hard time.

Default deer numbers

Growing up on the farm, the peak years of the deer population have been when coyotes were $200 un-skinned!

Coyotes killed a deer in our silage pit a few years ago on the packed snow. I also read in Field and this month about a guy using a deer decoy made to look like it was bogged down in the snow and the coyotes responded well to it. That tells me the coyotes recognize the easy meal from experience.
