You need a trapping license, either a resident trapping license of a Registered Trapping license.
Snares* for taking fur-bearing animals may only be set by
holders of Registered Fur Management Licences or
— by holders of Resident Fur Management Licences for
bobcat, coyote, fox, squirrel or wolf (provided they meet
the requirements listed in this section) and for beaver
(provided the snare loop is completely under water).
But be aware, a resident trapping license only allows one to trap on private land that they have right of access to and some crown land not within a registered trap line.
Crown land not included in a registered trap line may be applied for through F&W on a per quarter basis. One must fill out one form Form WA 19A for each quarter one is interested in and submit it to F&W within the district said land is located.
This form is the same one a person must get filled out by the landowner for trapping access to private land.
