Default Ice is on!

Went out to Pigeon this morning. Got to the lake about 7:30 and made it out at Mulhurst and was setup by 8 a.m. Punched about 20 holes in total. 10 inches at the least and 12 at the most. Lots of ice for this time of year!

Didn't see a thing until about 9 a.m. Walleye were on the prowl. First one was a bit bigger than expected. Really, really fat and healthy. Probably close to the 4lb mark:

Caught about 6 or so walleye, 1 pike and 1 white. Kept the white. Gave me a fight like none other. Put it on the scale at home and it weighed in at 4.2 lbs:

Lots of sizes to walleye from the size in the pic all the way down to 12 inches...maybe 1 lb. Had close encounters with about 7-8 other whites. One of them was a tank (guessing at 6 lbs based on the one I landed).

NIce day with no wind, -8 and sunny. Great day to be out!

Cheers!

Sounds like a pretty good day on the ice!

And I'm glad to hear that we're starting to get more options than just the little trout ponds around here

Great white.

If the year class is that big...it should be a great year. Saw a wickedly awesome year class go through once at Lac St. Anne. Skipped as many classes as I could.

Awesome, I only ice fished Pigeon lake once last year. Do you have to go far from shore to get into the fish??

Thanks guys. Most of the whites I saw where in this size class...or bigger. I did have one that looked about 2 lbs so multiple year classes seen on the whites as well.

Mulhurst takes awhile to get to 10 FOW. I also fished deeper. I was out about 400 yards and then about 600 yards.

I`ll be bringing the sled next time. Didn`t think it was thick enough but it is good to go.

Hey Snap! Nice catch!
Do you use a camera when your targeting whites, or do you find the cam spooks them?

No cam when stocking whites. I definately miss the cam but it is also nice to change it up. My neck takes a kicking though. Think I need a better tent to go with my neck
