Palm Springs - The Power of Water - Heavy Rain Golf Course Damage - Updated Feb 23.
Thought the frozen chosen back home would be interested in something different, what almost 4" or 100 mm of rain can do in 48 hrs in the desert.
Last week, Feb 14/15 Palm Springs seen 3.9" or more of rain, the other desert locations further from the San Jacinto Mountains got slightly less. There were numerous road washouts & water rescue pics on TV and almost a week later there’s still a number of roads closed, such as Hwy #74, Indian Canyons Dr., Cathedral Canyon Dr. the road up to the Tram and others.
We’re renting a place at the Desert Princess on Vista Chino & Landeau they had no damage the berm saved them. I played Escena on Saturday, they had standing water but no damage. Yesterday, went for a bike ride down to Ramon & the wash area, Cimarron G&CC is approx. 50% or more destroyed. I imagine Cathedral Canyons G&CC has similar damage or any course that’s located near or part of the wash area. Also heard Indian Canyons South has lots of damage but can’t confirm. I would suggest those planning trips to the Palm Springs area do some checking on course conditions. The staff at Cimarron say it will be a number of weeks before they open at least 9 holes while they rebuild. Forecast is for 1/2" or more rain over the next few days, windy and cool, nothing like last year.
A few pic’s.
D.

Spent Jan in PS. Had light rain about 4 different days. Probably the coolest Jan there in the past 8yrs so some days needed a long sleeve shirt. We were at Tahquitz Creek which flooded after we left. Hillsides should be green this year.

It rained in the Phoenix area as well but not that much. I don't golf anyway, a waste of a perfectly good rifle range if you ask me. Some flooding further north around Sedona but nothing like it in San Tan Valley where our house is.Supposed to get more on Thursday and cooler than normal. Still warmer than Edmonton though and haven't touched a shovel in two and a half months so really nothing to complain about.

Some of it looks like the Yellowknife golf course when I golfed it 15 or 20 years back. Tee off of mats, watch it bounce off some rocks and sand off the drive, lay your piece of turf down and use it for your next shot. Turf greens that roll unpredictably. Good thing is you could tee off at midnight!

That's just crazy. As a golf course superintendent it's painful to look at. Did you see the pics of Kananaskis after the floods? Messy.

No worries in PS, the Mexican crews that do the bulk of the grounds work on golf courses will have things back in shape within a week

That's the Palm Springs Airport Control Tower in the last pic .... the airport had lots of delays but no damage to their infrastructure.
Here's a link to the local TV Stn & a few more pic's ..

Not all Mexican people or people from any other Central American country for that matter are in the country illegally. If there legally why would he kick them out? If illegal, shouldn't they be deported?

Then ask yourself this! Why would he waste all the time and effort on this wall?

I said not all are illegal. Maybe you should speak to the Border Patrol, the ones with boots on the ground dealing with it everyday and ask them if its needed.

I hope they get the road to Whitewater Preserve fixed by the time I get there. It's such a nice spot for desert hikes. Might even get up to the snow this year.
