8 dead coyotes abandoned
Front Page Edmtn Journal:
http://edmontonjournal.com/news/loca...st-of-edmonton
FOUND: 8 coyotes dumped into a roadway ditch somewhere in Strathcona County. Based on photos, they all have their fur - not skinned.
There is no reported confirmation cause of death.
My conclusion is that this was done by an amateur:
The person isn't a true varmint hunter, nor a true trapper, nor a resident of the area, nor a conservationist at any level.
I am sure the guilty person lives east side of Edmonton, Sherwood Park or small hamlet.

Dumping in ditches isn't legal ...hillbillies do that - you have something in common with that?

coyote
Although it is legal to dump coyotes in ditch, I agree not good practise. Then with coyotes averaging approx $100 and top lot going for $720 last sale, should have offered them to a trapper. Would have made quite a few Canada Goose warm parkas.

This time of year not worth skinning
Cant tell from pictures how long they have been there but my guess is not thqt long. Agree not good practice to throw in ditch but having said that if the kid down the road didnt want them for skinning practice and to make hats out of the 3 I have shot hanging around the pheasant pens in the past month would have ended up on dead pile.

Lots of people think trapping/shooting is fun....until they have to skin them that is.

Poison?
I wouldn't think that this is legal. At the least it would be considered littering if nothing else, the same as dumping what's left of a moose carcass after butchering. If you have nowhere else to dispose of them why not just take them to the dump?

Legal or not I don't know Alberta laws. But if they truly were beautiful coyotes which in mid April they ain't unless frozen from before should have been given to someone or whatever. That's like throwing a 1000 bucks out the window. Or throw them some place better. U can't fix stupid.

Nobody can do anything at all about dumping them in a ditch I don't think. Too bad this happened not far from me as I would have gladly taken them and skinned myself.
Alberta Al you got an idea who it is?
I'd like to know who
I know one guy that got his license this year by cooking lake but I don't think it is him.
I wish people wouldn't dump stuff in the ditch. It makes things look bad for any hunter or trapper

I have no idea who did the coyote killing or dumping.
I'm just passing-on the news article and you can come up with your own conclusions as to who might have done it and whether its a right or wrong practice. Being a coyote trapper, I value these animals and don't like seeing them wasted. Dumping carcasses or garbage along any roadside is a pure insult to that neighbourhood.

Very unfortunate that this was done where the public can see it, It shows poor judgement and casts a shadow on all trappers and sportsmen alike! It may be legal , but poor ethics for sure. as far as the finder saying all the animals were fresh , THAT is HIS assumption , based on what ? we don't know , and again as far as leaving dead coyotes in sight of live ones to incite fear ? LOL Pack a lunch on that one! not going to happen, an old cowboy tale at best!
for example I caught ten coyotes in a 1 acre size area , they did not all get caught at once , and rest assured any subsequent coyotes coming into that area were WELL aware of what was going on ! soooo , that knocks the old theory out the window doesn't it? also it could be they all were left to lay too long in the heat and for some unforeseen reason the fellow was unable to process them on time ! Stuff happens , BUT again poor judgement on his part!

The facts and details are still unknown... seems that they were all dumped at one instance as opposed to over a period of time. Maybe they were all mange coyotes caught over the winter and only now gathered and dumped at one instance. If this was the case, then they were likely snared... but why would anyone haul mange coyotes home from a bait site in the first place.

Best off to stay in the city vs. roaming around the hillbilly infested countryside then. The hillbillies would prefer you do so

I far prefer throwing them in the ditch compared to running them thru the discbine.

If they need to be disposed of the smart thing would be to dump them in the bush out of the public’s eye. As for mange coyotes who would leave them at a bait site?

Dear al
I can tell you it wasnt hillbillies or farm boys or farmers they would have left them where they hit the dirt or drug them to the end of the field and tossed them in the bush if they were getting rid of a problem and had no intention of skinning
Sounds more like someone from town hunting predetores who had good intentions but lacked knowledge or ambition
As for your coments it just shows what kind of a person you are i will give you a hint north end of a donkey walking south

[QUOTE=AlbertaAl;3770057]The facts and details are still unknown...
The police task force are probably not releasing details of any leads they have.
Quite common practice when investigating major crimes.

Na, I was reading and watching rt.com all night myself.
The Russians say there was no chemical attack and have their facts and evidence to support their claims.
