Every firearm is a flat shooter.
You as the user are responsible for what it can do.

As per thE OP,,,, define flat shooting,,hmmm my definition would be to first determine the purpose, then the desired range limitations and the amount of kick I can take, figure out the BC of the bullet I want to use, then pick the caliber, then the cartridge and build up a load. Pretty crappy definition but its how I would define it in a way that I would pick a "flat" shooter that would work for me. I'm guessing others will define it differently. Simplified, I guess, would be to fire several different cartridges of the same caliber with the same bullet at a 500 target after the guns are zeroed at 100 and measure the drop of each. The one that drops the least is defined the "flattest" shooter. Just to clear up the huskima thing, no scope will make a cartridge/caliber shoot flatter, only compensate for the lack there of. Which I'm sure your all well aware, just keeping things on track. That being said Leopold has the same turrets.

The difference is that those guys shoot 1000+ rounds a year doing so to be proficient. This fella says he shoots very little and is still just that good.
I have watched Henry shoot the 500m rams off hand and it is impressive. I have issues hitting the 300 yard gong more than 70% of the time off hand. And I shoot a minimum of 500 rounds a year of centerfire. Likely closer to 750+ most years.

The thread went a different way a long time ago. So it is more relevant than you are letting on.

Other than some rare propriety cartridges such as the Lazzeroni cartridges, it would be difficult to find a flatter shooting cartridge to 500 yards/meters than the 7mmRUM.

what about optimal flatness it seems from what ive found out about 500 metre rams to get enough power to knock them over without too much recoil to affect shooting 6.5 to .308 caliber is used at speed between 2600 and 2800 thats a pretty narrow range for it to boil down to speedwise and not a very flat trajectory but apparently the best one. you might want flatter for hunting at unknown range even if its quite a bit shorter

The problem with flat shooters is what lays behind the target. A wide open quater section with roads on both sides can be a recipe for disaster with an awesome flat shooter.

This thread was started with a loaded question, intended to promote discussion, by a member that I doubt wanted a definite answere. IMO the OP is probably happy as heck, or at least was for a while, with the direction this thread took.

I wanted to post this clip for all the nay sayers and disbelievers, for whatever it's worth.

Finally I ask, what's more important, a flat shooting rifle, a great scope or the shooter? I say all play an important role.
Another factor that was never mentioned was Trigger Tension. I have my rifle trigger set to Hair, because trigger tension can result in pulled shots. The saying "Touch Off A Shot" comes to mind.
Happy Hunting to all.

People that actually have a clue about triggers, refer to the pull in ounces, not in vague terms like "hair".

it's obvious that in the video you posted you have dedicated your life to long range hunting. the number and various hunts you have been on with that huskemaw is something most could only dream of!
congrats on having the time and resources available to become the great long distance shooter you are, lee

Unless that is you taking the shot, your videos are worthless. Leupold, Vortex, Swaro, Zeiss, they all have factory propaganda videos that are very similar.
Describing a trigger using the term "set to Hair" is the dumbest thing I have ever read, which says a lot seeing as how I've read every post you've made in this thread.
Now excuse me if this is rude edmhunter, but your BS is getting pretty old. You've strung it out across multiple threads and it seems I can't learn anything from the fine outdoorsmen and women on this site without tripping over your cow turds. Take a break, enjoy the holidays, and go out a shoot a bit. That's my unsolicited advice.

Definitely one of the more entertaining threads I've seen around here.
Wonder how many more directions it can go? Is Edmhunter related to Shootacow from Montreal? Long lost cousin of Larry Root? Anudda brudda of the pool noodle specialist sniper team? The possibilities are endless.......

Duceman. Did you use a standard holdover technique or did you click some knobs and dials to get on paper at that distance? What is your preferred trigger pull weight? A hair? Stiff wind? Bright light? Feather? Bad breath?

Hey duceman. You missed the bullseye by quite a bit at 1200m. Have you ever considered getting a Huskemaw? That would tighten that group up quite a bit.
