Vortex Diamondback BDC. .......
Looking at buying a decent scope, this is my first scope and dont have a lot of money to spend.Does anyone have expierence with this scope? Should i get it in 3-9 or pay extra for the 4- 12? I am using it in a 308 and mostly for deer and elk.
Thanks

I have a 4-12x40mm with the BDC on a 17hmr and I had one years ago on a 7mm rem mag. I really like them for the price. Hard to go wrong with one for the 240$.
I personally would go with the 4-12 over the 3-9

I am underwhelmed by the Crossfire and Diamondback lines. If you can't spend a nickel more then I guess so. 369.00 is what the Wholesale site says for the 4-12x40 you were asking about.
For 430.00 you can get into a VX2 in a 3-9x40. The glass quality is not even comparable between the two.
This is your first scope. You don't need a BDC reticle. You also don't need 4-12. Spend the little bit extra on GOOD glass and be happy forever with the scope. That's $35 a paycheque for 2 cheques to make up the difference.
If you can't see it, you can't shoot it!

I had a vortex diamondback 4-12x40 with bdc, I was not a fan, has something like 3.1" of eye relief and wasn't that clear. There is better scopes out there for the same money.

The nikon monarch 3 is on sale for a am very similar price. Would you say the monarch beats the diamond back?

I put a 4-12 vortex crossfire on my kids 17 hmr, it's junk. I have looked through the diamond back and wasn't impressed. I put a 2.5-10 vortex viper on my XCR-l and like it. I also put a 3-9 viper on my 22 mag and it works well. I believe with the vortex the viper and up are good but I would stay away from the cheaper models. For a hunting scope a Leupold vx2 in a 3-9 is all a person really needs.

In my price range at this current time i am between the vortex viper in 3-9 x 40, Leopold VX1 3-9x40 or the nikon pro staff 3-9 x 50.
Recommendations out of these 3?

Of those 3 I would likely pick the viper also.

I have the Viper on 2 of my rifles. Absolutely best quality scope in that price range.

I have a 4-12 Vortex crossfire and it was fine on my .204 Decent glass, accurate. Tried it on my .270 and noticed in a hurry that the eye relief wasn't sufficient for me. No dummy mark but real close....lol I'm not in the market for something different.

I thought the Diamondback was just "ok" so I traded up and got the Viper and it is a much better scope. I think the Fullfield II is probably better than the Diamondback too, in that same price range.

I paid 240$ for my diamondback. I definitely wouldnt pay over 400$ for it though. I also own a viper and really like it in fact I like it more than my VX-3 4.5-14x50mm

I just bought a 3-9x40 Diamondback BDC for an old Mossberg .308 i refinished. I think its a great scope for deer hunting, and its what my intended plan to use it for is. The hash marks work great as well. For the load I was using they pretty much worked out to 200,300 and 400 yards shy a few yards.
I got my for $240 at Cabelas last week.

Without hesitation, I would choose the Monarch.
