I'm a teacher. You're a teacher. We are almost like brothers. Therefore, put a reserved sign on the far left bench on the big bore range. I have three rifles that need to be sighted in. I expect to arrive at about 12:30

I'm thinking of trying this off-hand Challenge with a red dot...too much stuff on the go to try it before June. I picked up an Aimpoint micro T-1 with a 2 moa dot.

Some discussion in another thread regarding the merits of practice prompted me to bump this thread. Maybe we can see some off-hand practice?
To date, I have shot the red dot off bags with decent results, but still not enough confidence to try this challenge!

its a rem 700 300 blackout with 16 inch barrel. i put a muzzle brake on it from alberta tactical just because the short barrel looked funny. i used the factory glued over trigger adjustment to get the trigger to 2.5 pounds very nice i didnt touch sear engagement no need. the gun is chunky and solid i like it even if its ugly.i put 17 gr n110 with 125 gr bal. tip 2140 fps thats about all the powder that will go in without compression. trijicon 1 to 4 power i use 4 power very nice scope

Marx - interesting round. How does it group when benched? What twist? I am still working up the courage to try this Challenge.

it groups around 1.5 inch with the nosler but i havent really tried to get good bench groups except with cast which are good for 3 or 4 inches at a little over 1800 fps maybe the 1 in 7 twist is too fast i only have about 300 rounds with all different kinds of loads so i dont really know yet so far i zero the load and plink away. it drops fast after 100 yard zero to 4 inche low at 150 and it looks like a foot low at 200 metres although i didnt measure it. but that was with 150 gr. like i said ive not tested it ci=onsistantly but 200 metres is past its range . its no 30 30 despite what they try to brag it up to. however its a little faster than a 22 mag with real bullets with decent bc. and they are killing hogs lots in the states they think its effective

I run 1:17 twist for 30BR's which also shoot the 110 - 125's ... so I would guess a slower twist would have more potential...but one sure can't complain about your off-hand results.

targets
try a 30 30 with open sights, for years shot grouse way back in the woods where it was safe all head shots.Better than a 12 gauge and keeps your shooting eye on the money.Lots of guys I know are good with 30 30s shooting off hand.

Encourage them to try this Challenge -- twelve consecutive shots into a group less than 8" @ 100M takes better than just "good" IMO

ive been getting some successful targets with my tikka 243 but i wanted a full power 30 06 target. shot this one today 100 metres with my 783. i was alternating 4 round groups with my open sight 30 06 on another target getting a bit shaky by the end finishing with the 783

Marx - that is exceptional off-handing! Good on you. Makes me want to practice more, but my luck generally runs out before I get five rounds down range and I give up. I thought a red dot might make this challenge more doable for me, but no cigar.

Nice shooting Marx. Don't hear much about the 783, how do you like it and how does it shoot off a rest? Thinking about buying one to play with for curiosity sake.

yes improvement is painfully slow some people might be naturals but the rest of us have to keep plugging away

i bought mine out of curiosity too the 783 has no innovations at all the trigger is as good as anything else i have as far as i can tell. great magazine i especially like the design of the latch. its free floated with a stiff hard stock and soft recoil pad and shoots well off the bench. its not light. its ugly. it looks like the same idea as marlin x7 although i have never seen one of those. its pillar bedded. i think its made in kentucky and the metal finish is way nicer than my 700sps.

Thought perhaps renewing this CHALLENGE would be a good starting point for anybody interested in wanting to test their offhand ability. The option is to use either the three circles as described in the OP, or just to put twelve consecutive shots into an single 8" circle.

X3. 260 you should have posted the 500yd standing off hand challenge. This is far too easy for a few people.

Oh good lord just say what you mean already. Edmhunter is a big fat liar and everyone knows it. Make the challenge simple and to the point. Let's get him out and give him 3 cartridges. If he can't hit an eight inch going two out of three shots we can put anything we want in a sock and swack him with it. If he can, he gets to swack us with it. Done. Anyone else want the same deal then put your name on the list.
