'Emily The Trapper'
.
Bill Abercrombie and Emily Lamb
I've never participated in the AO Trapping Forum before (I'm not a trapper), but I thought I'd share this with you folks. This six page article made the front page of the Calgary Herald 'Swerve' magazine this week . . .
I thought the article was well written and made some very good points on trapping here in Alberta, but not being a trapper, I can't comment on the accuracy or validity of the article ... I'll leave that to you folks.
Cheers,
Mac

Bill is a good guy. I will read this article and see what it has to say. There sure is a lot of trapping in the news lately and I think it is good for us.

"...but her work ethic and foul mouth quickly endeared her..."
I must be getting old, can't grasp a foul mouth on a gal as "endearing".

Just read the whole thing. Wow that was long. I thought it was well written. I posted it up on my Facebook as well. I think an article like that can even be enjoyed by those that live in a bubble and have no idea what trapping is all about.

She is or was the President of the Calgary ATA Local and every once and a while she was on here but I don't recall anything for a while.
Good article. I see our local professional protester put a comment on it. How can you take a comment like hers seriously when she protests everything from trapping, seeding the clouds for hail supression to cow flagulation. I expect there will be another article from her in the local rag. She certainly embelishes most everything via misinformation such as she did in her comment about leghold checking requirements.
Articles like Emily's are going to help inform the uniformed and mis-informed a bit more into how trapping is very humane, regulated and trappers are true Stewards of the Land.

Pretty good read but I noticed that the Calgary Trappers local was not mentioned at all. Wonder why?

I was searching to see if the "Emily" article was available in another newspaper and I found an article in the Montreal Gazette dated May 20th that people may be interested in reading. There are quotes from several people in the article including Gord Klassen.

some great articles on alberta trappers and trapping in alberta recently. it can only be good.
much better than the national post article about the FN trapper with pictures of him chugging crown royal on the seat of his skidoo and marking trails with beer cans. that was a pretty sad article IMO.

Thanks for the post, Macleod, and HunterDave for the Montreal Gazette link.
Will be emailing the reporters, I believe direct positive responses help the cause.

Hey all
Yep I am still around, and I am still the president of the Calgary local. I have just moved and sold a house the last few months but still keeping track of everything on here at a distance or trying to. Hopefully planning another meeting late April.
In regards to your comments about mentioning the Calgary local or my "foul mouth" unfortunately I had no say in what the journalist decided to say or include in the article and what he didn't. All in all it turned out to be a positive exposure for us all I hope, which is really the end goal for me. This article has gotten more press than the writter or herald was expecting, mainly because of shares on Facebook and social media, so everyone really stepped up to spread the word on this. Hopefully this adds to the positive momentum we have had going. Thanks for all your support.

Hi Emily! Glad to hear from you. I thought that the article was terrific and I loved what you were quoted as saying. I think that you are a great ambassador for trapping and you have helped remove the stereotype/stigma of trapping. Thank you for agreeing to do the article. Happy trappin' and I hope that you have a great spring muskrat season!
