That just sounds lazy or a easy out.. And I know that's not the reason. You shoot a rifle, it will take you no time at all to learn how to shoot a bow... Heck, I bet you even get addicted like most.... Try it. I bet you would actually be pretty good at it.... 5-10 min a day and you would great... Less time than it takes to drive to the gun range.

You will never know until you try, say an experimental "year" where the cross bows, traditional and cam bows all hunt the same season...bet it works.

Apparently yes when a vote was held in Alberta the decision was made to not include the crossbow in the archery season...... (I would like to see more details about this vote since I never heard of it or voted) that does not by default change they way the world (except a few stubborn members here) defines what a crossbow is......... if you recall..... the vast majority of jurisdictions in the United States do consider them part of the archery season, so just because 30 or 40 people voted in Alberta against allowing them in the Archery only season does not automatically remove them from the list as a archery discipline.
|
When I saw this it was not a vote, it was a questionnaire. Do you think crossbows should be allowed in the archery season?

The surveys are very hit and miss I haven't received one in a couple years.
But I wouldn't worry AFGA will be bringing it to the table every year until it comes to be. Until then all people can do is keep these conversations going
so people are educated that crossbows are archery equipment and not guns
Plus the silliness of some antis contribute to the swing vote in the future.
If we keep talking about it the more educational it becomes.

At what cost ? Our wildlife? Our money and resources? In what zone?
Do we even know how many xgun hunters there are in the province? We know there are 16,000 licensed bow hunters... Creating or combining seasons for 40 guys is hardly worth it.

I do not recall receiving it either, I remember having a chat with TJ (sheephunter) on the forum and that is how he said it was done.
At the end of hunting season 2010 or 2011 there was a hunter survey sent out to Alberta RELM users. The last question had to do with if you were in favor of having a special crossbow season before the regular rifle season.
The results were as is:
37% Yes
44% No
19% Neutral

We're getting closer by those stats it may only be a couple more years. Thanks for the encouraging news. You have some pretty good info lefty.

AHHHH YES!!!!! I do recall seeing that email comeout!!! i remember because i wasnt afforded the opportunity to vote as i had just moved and the only internet available was on my i phone and the survey vote wasnt enabled on iphone.....funny how that works.
i also remember trying to figure out the wording. why would they present it as if there would be a SEPERATE season? the wording conveys that they would shorten bow and rifle to squeeze in a specific crossbow season. A direct wording would be "should we include xbows into archery season'.

says the guy opposed to putting species on bow draw in areas anhiallated by culling and winterkill.
NOT opening a groups season to those 40 xbow guys seems pretty stupid too doesnt it.

Could be the nice weather, or to get into the elk rut when it's in full swing. Could also have something to do with the range. Personally I think it is too hot to hunt in September, really got to work hard and fast to save your animal after you shoot him.

Ya, it's like how we have to say happy holidays now, because 40 people got offended at Merry Christmas.

So give in to every small group that wants to change something?
We don't have a real number, IMO we need that first...

So you said earlier there would not be anymore hunters there would only be a shift how would that be harming our wildlife by just choosing a different weapon? What cost are you referring to. If there was only 40 guys I wouldn't think there would be as much opposition.

How many licensed bowhunters were there before an archery season was designated? Was a license required then?

and it could also be argued that it would be hardly problematic or disruptive. No need for a huge fight against adding 40 guys. You would likely never ever run into one in the wild.

So if someone enjoys something different than you that means its wrong? Now I at least have some clarification on how you think.
Thank you for the insight.
