Snow shovel wear strips

I've got one of those show shovels from CanTire with a chartreuse wear strip. The strip is worn down.
It actually wore out a couple of years ago and I replaced it with a piece of a stainless steel metre stick that I picked up at a yard sale. It worked but not that well as the metal tends to catch on the concrete sidewalk. Anyway, the metal wear strip is now worn out and needs replacement.

CanTire does not sell wear strips. Obviously, there is more money in selling shovels than there is in selling wear strips.

So, has anyone here made a wear strip for their snow shovel? What material did you use? How did it work? Thanks in advance.
