Default Colt cap and ball revolver

This revolver has been in my family for a few generations, from what I’ve been told it was used in a slaughter house somewhere in Montana in the late 1800’s. It’s pretty much just a display piece now and to tell the truth nobody really looks at it. Somewhere along the line the front sight was filed down and from what I’m told my late uncle cut a few notches in the handle. Just curious if anyone on here would have knowledge on a value on it? And if anyone would be interested in it as collector item.
