I wouldn't have a problem using my 22/250 on a sausage deer....but with that being said, I'm fine with what the regulations state at the moment as I can guarantee not everyone will stay within the limitations of the smaller bore. I'm sure the problem already exists, why compound it?
I get your concern. I believe it is unfounded and i also believe that too much gun is a bigger problem.
Watch any of these YouTube hunting sensations. Even the enjoyable ones. They all pack magnums. And it is evident that some struggle to shoot them well.
Conversely, guys that use their cartridges to the fullest are also easy to spot.
