Getting used to progressives: how long did it take you?

Just got my first set of progressives. Just put them in 1/2 hour ago. Distance seems fine. Reading a book is tough. Seems I have to look through the lower half of the lense, and through a very narrow "sweet spot" in the centre of the page. Kind of have to slightly move my head back and forth to focus on the words. Is this normal?
