Default Platinum F-350 tailgate stolen

Just a heads up my 2015 F-350 Platinum tailgate was stolen 3 morning ago, daughter wakes me up at 1:30am saying someone is in the back of my truck, so I race out to the truck but I was about 20 seconds late from catching the POS, talked with Ford and replacement of the tailgate will be about 9000$, that does not include the damage done to my truck cap back window that they damaged to get the tailgate down, I would have loved to catch them and so would have my dogs!!!!, make sure to lock your tailgates and be safe out there it's getting flipping crazy

doesn't surprise me at all after they get it painted, but aftermarket tailgates are a lot cheaper.

I put a hose clamp on the end that lifts up so that tailgate is hard to remove unless you have a screwdriver. I think that is enough to make most thieves move onto something else. $9000 for a tailgate? Now we know who the real thieves are.

3 weeks ago someone did the same to our company cube van. Boss has a cam outside. Guy was wearing a hoodie so no clear pic. He said it took less than 2 minutes . Cost him $1600 to replace it.
Same truck in the last year got broken into , fuel line cut and gas siphoned two other times.

Sorry to hear about your tailgate. That sounds really expensive for a tailgate.
My old bosses' tailgate off his 3/4 2004 Dodge was $2G I think when it got lifted right in front of his house.

Was at a Ford dealership about 4 years ago. I asked the salesman how come 6 of their trucks had no end gates. He said what do you mean. I said look. Sure enough some pecker head stole them the night before.

So are these Ford tailgates really that easy to steal? When my tailgate is locked, a person would have to remove all the screws and then the access cover to disable the lock to remove the tailgate.

No just bust the outside handle cover and pull the two rods together, voilla open the tailgate.
Manufacturers have made things very expensive, complicated and very costly to replace yet easy for thieves to steal all the while selling its security features. They love this and enjoy the billions of dollars in sales selling replacements and all the parts they put in them. They are overly complicated for a reason, it's a great marketing strategy.

My new work truck has power locks in the tail gate because they're so expensive and easy to steal. It's a great idea I never thought about.

Put a big ugly dent in your tail gate.
So far this has deterred the theft of mine.
