See what your rifle likes best. I use to shoot 165 out of my 30-06 but my 300wsm likes the 180 better. I dropped elk bear deer moose with my 30-06 with a 165 like nothing.
Just wanted some opinions/recommendations on some ammo.
I shoot a 300Win Mag
Moose, deer, bear, elk
165gr or 180gr?
What type of bullet are you considering? Makes a difference-ie. bonded versus monlitic. Reason being as they say a 165 gr. barnes is like a 180 accubond-(just examples)

I use the 168gr TTSX in my 300 WSM at 3165 and have taken moose and deer with it. my son used 180gr partitions for his moose load and 165gr Ssts for deer. This year he is going to try 180gr accubonds at 3100 for elk. I will stay with my TTSX for elk.

Elk 11 has hit the nail on the head! Bullet construction is more important than weight. Find a well constructed bullet your rifle ''wants'' If you find a bullet that is really accurate you will build confidence and placing shots accurately to make a quick clean kill will become second nature. Just a few to try are
Hornady Interbonds
Barnes TTSX or XXX
Nosler Partitions or Accubonds
Speer Hot Core
Speer Deep Curl
Hornady Interlocks in Flat base
The last three mentioned are much cheaper than the premiums but offer good value in a hunting bullet!
