Trail prep(clearing logs) and trail cams put up so far at the property we have permission on in anticipation of my sons first archery moose hunt. Very excited to be able to call moose in for him if the gods shine some luck our way.

^ How did it go?
I have been out twice with a buddy looking for elk. A few responses but they are refusing to move for now. We are also trying out a new to us area for a change. Next weekend will probably be more interesting.

Big congrats, fishnguy! Sounds like a lot of women in your house now
Nice sheep, lgalberta!
Good stuff everyone else.
I have been busy for my own stuff, but was a part of a successful elk hunt, a very good 6x6 bull. I also helped a new guy to put down a mule doe a couple of days ago.

Today I left the newborn daughter and my three-year-old with the wife and parents-in-law and drove out for a walk, while tagging along my sister-in-law. We do not really get along that well with the sis-in-law, but I figured why the hell not. I guess it would be enough said that she is a vegetarian and anti many things I do
Anyway, I packed the .22 and the 12 gauge with me hoping to show her that shooting can be a lot of fun. She had never held a gun in her hands before or had seen one up close for that matter. She had no idea that guns are even present in the vehicle when we went out.
Long story short, while driving, we talked about guns and hunting and whatnot. We have also seen four moose on the way and she was repulsed by me saying that they are good eating. When we have gotten where we were going, I said that we can just hike or we can grab the .22 with us and shoot some sh*t on the way. She said as long as we do not shoot anything live, she would be fine with it. Not bad of a start, I thought. So we went.
I will not be surprised if many here recognize the area and I was I actually very surprised there weren't any hunters around.
So we walked down a bit to a good spot to shoot and I set up the three beer cans I found on the way and three target print outs I had in the vehicle. I explained the basic gun safety to her and she seemed to grasp it pretty well. She was actually the first "new to guns" person that I have been shooting with who pressed the safety button every time she was done shooting. She actually did alright shooting wise as well. Except for the fact that after firing the first ten shots she, in excitement, just laid the gun down to the sand while jumping and saying let's go check the targets. I was a little WTF type of outraged, picked up the gun and cleaned it and it turned to be not a big deal.
Once we were done, I drove to another spot, mainly to see what is going on there, but also hoping to pick some cranberries. While driving, I asked her if she is ready to go to put a deer down with me. She answered no, but if we take a "chicken" out, that would be OK. My thoughts were In the end of the day, we agreed to repeat what we did today before she leaves (she lives in Vancouver) and hopefully get the shotgun going as well.
Just a few photos from today:
Do you see a squirrel? (you probably do )
Quite a few very fresh rubs around:
Hopefully we did not ruin this dude's hunt:
Don't these things look like those binary code cards whenever you run into them?
And driving out closer to the sunset:
Best time of the year to be out there!
Wish I had a decent camera to take photos with. If anyone has one they want to get rid off, let me know. I promise to post photos around these parts of the internet
P.S. When we came back home, my mother-in-law said that i am a bad influence with guns and stuff

^ interesting. I was leaning towards elk myself, but I am not a pro by any stretch (hardly an amateur).
Maybe I will create a new thread and try to get more response since I have no clue if many people are even reading any of it

So far so good, the dog has had many pheasants and some sharptails killed over him, we have had some very good goose hunts, I have killed a nice pronghorn, and helped a hunting partner fill his moose tag. We will get out a few ,more times for pheasant, chase some Huns, and then it's antlered moose and deer at Camp Wainwright.

Great stuff, everyone!
Elkhunter11, those were quite some bird hunts I read about, especially the last one! And it appears like a great group of people.

It was the first year that our group has been hunting together, but it has worked out very well. I look forward to starting earlier next year.

Blacktail down
Well I didn't think it would happen for me this year as I moved to prince rupert in may and didn't have my license until November 3rd...scouted hard in the summer and came up with almost no plan for deer but lots of bear sign. Helped my buddy shoot a black bear in September so was good to be a part of that..last Sunday I went out to an island off the coast in search of some deer and shot my first buck! Little 2 point Sitka blacktail. Pretty happy with the season so far..might go inland for some grouse this weekend

My season started off strong with geese and pheasant, I haven't hunted big game yet. I hosted a friend that used to work for me, and we took limits of geese and pheasant every day. My regular waterfowl group had some excellent hunts as well, and we have learned a great deal, and I have expanded my list of landowners who allow us to hunt on their property. A week ago, I developed a nerve issue in my back, and now my season is at a dead standstill. At this point, I am still hoping to have a friends son purchase a youth partner licences to fill my antlered deer tag, but that depends on my back. If we are able to make it happen for the young man, my season will have been a success. In the meantime, I am hoping for one more goose hunt, and possibly a pheasant hunt or two, but time is not in my favor for those.

I am having my best season yet, even with my limited hunting time this year. I shot my best mule deer to date in Sept with archery gear and pulled the trigger on my best whitetail to date on Nov 6th. I've covered a lot of country this year and have seen lots of great animals. I'm counting the days to get off of work! Maybe I still have time to fill my elk tag and help some friends and family get their animals as well! Cheers!

Successful backcountry archery elk hunt(buddy arrowed it), successful opening day whitetail buck (buddy shot it), successful mule deer doe down south in the badlands (shot by me), lots of duck hunting with the boys. Now we are getting ready for another whitetail hunt this weekend! Lots of meat in the freezer this season!
