***2015 Shed Thread***
Found my first fresh bone of the season today Saturday December 13th which is officially the earliest I have ever found an antler. I just about drove over the dang thing. Looks like he jarred it loose jumping the grader bank.
Good luck to all you other shed hunters this season and please post them as you find them!

I would like to try this shed hunting stuff this year. Any tips on where to look, especially in poplar wooded areas?

Sheds
Sweet! I almost enjoy shed hunting more than actually hunting! All local bucks here on camera are still packing horns. I found a matched set on Xmas Eve a few years ago ( my earliest)! I'm going to check more cameras and will report back soon! Now is the time to be finding feeding areas to be scoured later for sheds!!

^^^ typically there will be trails that the deer constantly use during the winter months to and from bedding areas.. also along fence lines they have a tendency to fall off when they hopp over ..

Great, there's road hunters and before you know there's gonna be shed road hunters.
Just kidding. I can see how it can get pretty addicting looking for sheds.

I saw a huge whitetail buck yesterday just outside if Calgary that had both sides still intact. A buddy of mine reported seeing another one in Fish Creek park intact as well.

By this time last year I had found at least 10 sheds, mostly spikers and fork horns. All were found around our bales. This year I have found zero.

4 so far
Nothing big yet. Top set was within 5' of each other. I don't think the bottom two are a match.

Found this poor fellow when out looking on Sunday. Shame as he was a beauty, 165 gross would be a very close Guess.

Hard to tell. All that was left was the head and spinal cord. Did not see much sign around of yotes though.

now that is an incredible find. what is the legal policy in alberta regarging finding deadheads?
in SK I would be required to declare the head to CO's within a week and apply for a permit to retain and mount the anters. once the permithas been issued the antlers cannot be sold. non-residents are not permitted to pick any antlers with skull attached.

Need to obtain a found dead permit, by bringing the found dead to a F&W office and filling out an information form, and paying $10.

letting this dry out then might get the permits to bring it home.
