Exclamation $.70455 03/17/20

I have missed the boat a couple times, (happily now) and still have some US cash in surplus. Today it is higher than it has been for months (maybe years) to cashout, looks like it will fall more.

Another penny is a couple hundred dollars more in the jeans, and I have no interest in going to the States right now.

Ride it out or cash it in?

I am leaning towards waiting for a couple more cents, hate the thought of making money off our hurting economy, but thats the way it is working right now.

If anything, I think we will hear a "clunk" one day....the sound of the Cdn dollar dropping off significantly.

And then of course the Banks will institute a 'new simplified fee' for us selling them US$, and we will get less back anyway.

01/15/16 it hit .69c, been hovering .75-76 since.

It was $1.04 in 2011, I remember paying $985 CAD for $1000 USD.

It has gone from .73 to .74 in 4 hours this morning

Im predicting a Trump re-election, a war, a weak Canadian government failing to deal with whatever, a Chinese government needing to lower their interest rates and low oil prices

If Canada were stronger Id likely say sell

But Canada is fragile. Unstable. An investment risk.

And we won't have an election for another 3-1/2 years, so I don't see Canada gaining any strength before then.

Canada will bleed hard for the next 4 years. Then, a new government will come in and have a lot of "white mold" to deal with

Yep. Think I'm going to move to Ecuador. Very low cost of living, clean and low crime rates (in Cuenca), and temperatures that are between 16-24 C year round. Oh, and a much, much lower tax rate. I knew there was a reason I've been practicing Spanish. Looking better all the time.....

I know, this was completely off topic. I'd say hold till the CDN hits $.70 Ken, this oil war is gonna slay our dollar, as well as the virus panic. It's the low dollar and high tax, anti business government that has me thinking (a lot) about Ecuador.

We have a 'Minority' government this time around ... in theory, an election could happen at any time.

All it would take, is for the Liberals to lose a 'non-confidence vote', and we'd be off to the polls again.

Once the CPC have selected a new leader (June 27th), the clock will start ticking.

RBF2014, straight U.S. dollar savings account, you can earn .45% interest while it sits. That is the equivalent of it dropping half a cent a year while you are waiting to hit 70 cents. Right now I would be holding onto all the U.S. dollars I had, like the others I don't see Canada's dollar getting stronger over the next year or so.

I went into my bank today to cash out my $USD for $CAD.

When I bought USD they told me if I bought $10,000 I would get a better deal.

So I bought $10,000.00 and iirc it was $12,250.00 at the time. They charged me just over $350 for the service.

They wanted over $300.00 today to sell me back my $CAD. I told them I wanted my $USD in cash, and they fought bitched and whined. They said they would do the transfer for $180.00 because I was cleaning out all their yankee money. I said Knightstbridge wanted under $100 for the same amount.

Back to another manager, had been about 15 minutes standing at the counter already. By that time when I checked xe.com it had come up another $65.00.

"Why do you want cash? Why not a draught? Can we transfer it somewhere for you? What are you buying?"

They sure do not want to give my money to me, that I bought from them.

I cleaned out my account, now will wait for .70c and do a knightsbridge transfer I guess. I think this will NET me another ~$600+ anyway.

I hate banks. If I traded from US to CAD every day at some point there would be nothing at all left, and the bank did nothing but move a decimal point and change some numbers on the computer, for $300.00 in 4 seconds work.

Man the dollar is volatile today.

8,114USD =
11,314.39
CAD
1 CAD = 0.717140 USD
1 USD = 1.39443 CAD

if you walked into the TD bank up to the teller (if they have any) and ask to buy 5000.00 US dollars it will cost you 7173.00 cdn.
Take you 5000.00 usd and move one teller over, say you want to cash in your 5000.00 us dollars for Canadian and you get 6792.00.

and that's why you buy bank stocks....lol

Having been a professional FX trader for 14 years, there's three things to consider right now:

1. In times of crisis, the USD almost always moves higher...in 2008 it moved over 20 cents higher in two days.
2. There is a substantial bank problem in the EU, so capital will move to USD.
3. Follow the trend, now is for the USD to go higher. However, things can snap back in a minute. Sell at whatever rate makes you happy, then don't look at the rate.

Just my three cents.

Scott

Honestly I think it’s got another 20-40% to drop. My opinion only, CAD economy is in bad shape and US dollar shortage continues. All economies printing money today.

It was close, down to .685 iirc. I withdrew the money out of the bank, have it at home, they pizzed me off with their exchange rates.

I was going to go to knightsbridge but honestly its not worth the hassle.

If it goes under .70c again I will cash in, or if it hits par I will buy more. I am in no rush for a few dollars, it's nice to have a little in the mattress.
