Default i tried a Magnetospeed

WOW
What a fantastic product, little expensive, but SUPER easy to use and seemingly very accurate for muzzel velocity. can't wait to borrow my friends again some time soon out at the Rimbey range...FS

Default ease of use

I cannot get over just how easy these are to use, just velcros to the barrel.

I think he originally ordered several of the Sporter Models and thought they would move pretty quick. What build is the barrel for?

I picked up a V3 this winter, haven't tried it out yet. Ya, they are not cheap, but, I paid 339.00 for an Oehler, 25 or so yrs ago. Chrony was 100.00 or so 30 yrs ago. To get something that works properly, on a one time investment basis, they are not bad at all, at the 3-500.00 level. How much ammo have people wasted shooting over a Chrony? I may have had maybe 25 bad readings over the Oehler in the time I've had it, and that is probably out of 3000 rds over it, at minimum. Shot arrows over it to 50yds, bullets to 200. The bulk of the screwups were with the 450-400 and muzzle blast from it. Only reason I bothered with the Magnetospeed, is that the Oehler is a pain to set up if you are at a range, and it isn't compact to haul around.
Anyone heard if the new doeppler chrono has actually started shipping yet?, was supposed to be last month.....

Default Make sure your strap is tight on big recoil rifles

Had a big oops with mine today. Had it on my 257 Wby working on a new load. Didn’t have the chin strap tight enough I guess, and the recoil caused the whole thing to slide far enough forward that the front edge tilted up into the path of the bullet. The bullet won. Will check if they can be repaired or not. I’m hoping that I can get just the bayo I think it’s called. The ‘outer part of it is still ok.😠🤬😭

I cut a small piece of bicycle tube (relatively thin and already has a curved profile) and place it under the strap to avoid any slippage.

Yes they are amazing, I always borrowed my friends magneto. He never used it much since his life is crazier then mine, but he took it back to enjoy it himself. I went out and bought one my next day off, really is the most convenient.

I sold my Pro Chrono Digital earlier this year and picked up the Sporter model Magnetospeed. The ease of set up alone was worth the money.
I have zero complaints about the Pro Chrono,IMO it's the best value for this type of Chrono, but setup with other people at the Range is a bit of a inconvenience.
I picked up a small hip-roof type metal tool box from CT and cut some hard packing foam to custom fit the Magneto into it.Putting that thing back in it's original plastic rectangular container got old real quick.

I agree that it is a pain, but I’ve got it down now and I sure like the compact nature of it. I’ve also cut a piece of wooden dowel as an alignment jig that works well.

There is a guy in B.C. that sells the bayonets for $100. I can’t remember who though.

I have a chrony now and have my setup down to a t, I rarely get an error reading but setting up with others at the range is a pain. I tried a magnetospeed at the range a while back and also shot thru my chrony. My chrony registered an average of 27'/sec faster than the magnetospeed. I would like to try a lab radar. One thing though my rifle poi was off about 8" high with the magnetospeed hung on the barrel.

The magnetospeed will already indicate a higher velocity, because it takes readings at the muzzle, rather than 15-20 feet away, where the bullet has already lost some velocity.

I agree, so if you compensate for the 12' distance from muzzle to chrony the chrony would be approx. 8-9'/sec faster yet. Opening up the spread even more
