Cold lake up dates 2016
Normally Cold lake does not freeze over till late Dec.
This way the ice will not get much snow on top and will freeze thicker.
Whats going on this year .
Is it still open water in the lake ?

Hate to walk out and stand on top of an air pocket and the ice is only 2 inches instead of 4 .
Going to wait for the new year.

I dunno, 8" of clear is more than enough to walk onto safely. Not my pic, but still and that was almost a week ago with cold(ish) temps every day/night since.

Absolutely, your messing with your life! Seen people walked out two or three hundred yards from shore.

Yep. Was out in front of marina on Monday. There is 9" of ice where I was. And today I went to French bay. 13" of ice there. Marked lots of fish, most were pretty aggressive.

Was out the last couple days out from the provincial park. 8-10'' of ice about a mile out towards the centre of the lake (west). The access to the lake from the boat launch is kinda rough so if you have a trailer I'd recommend using one of the parking lots and driving your stuff onto the lake instead of bouncing down the ramp. Stay safe and have fun!

yup 12 "of ice is good for a smaller truck like a ranger but must drive really slow,
at that speed ,why not just walk and not take a chance of hitting a air pocket.

straight out from the marina, 500 yards or so the boys have been slaying the lakers using large white jigs and smelts/minnows almost off the bottom.

Don't get caught offloading your sled or quad within the Provincial Park including the parking lot or you will likely get an unpleasant surprise waiting on your windshield in the form of a $200+ fine. There are signs posted everywhere, better off driving down onto the ice and spreading out around the launch. Was on the west side of the lake today, lots of 2" wide cracks and a buddy had a huge heave push up around his tent when some D Bag drove their full size company truck on the lake. Still only 9" of good consistent ice, on the west side, some spots thicker, but a few spots less. Great for walking on or using OHV, oh yeah fishing was slow this evening too.

Was out on the 30th. Between 4 of us landed close to 120 lakers...Multiple fish coming off the bottom with hooked fish. If they spit the hook usually had another hook up immediately. We only kept 3. Bucktails and sucker belly. Couldn't fish deadlines as too much action...Great day, cold as hell though...

French bay is just below the ski hill on the south side of the lake .Its a very large bay,as you can see on goggle maps the Sask. boarder goes threw it.
Just drive off the prov boat launch and you will see 40 trucks out there this weekend.

ColdL isn't dead, and the ice isn't bad, just be careful anywhere on the north/north east bays , we came out yesterday morning and had three lakers (one keeper for lunch) and some burbs on the ice by noon.
today has been alright as well, three more one the ice and another keeper for lunch too and bites are sporadic but keep coming. going to fish all day and tomorrow as well.
haven't touch water deeper then 75 feet

Or even start a new thread containing a tutorial on the process of holding fish for pictures.
