Default Reloading for 300 savage

Never reloaded for 300 savage, only for 30 06
So this is new for me
I don't want to spend too much money right now, so I am looking at my reloading stuff
I have IMR 4350
Hornaday 150gr SST
CCI large rifle primer no. 200
Would that be a good combination?
Basically going for whitetail up to 150 yards, maybe 200 yards max.
Would you do this?
Thanks

4895, 4064, Varget type burn rate type powders is what you need. 4350 is too slow of burn rate for the .300 Savage.

Time to invest in a couple reloading manuals I’d say.

Default Ken Waters "Pet Loads" + Speer #10

All I've ever used 150gr -42 gr /Win 748/Win brass 41gr same powder + brass/165gr bullet 40gr same powder + brass /180gr bullet CCI or Fed mag primer as this is ball powder. All shot under an inch at 100 yards from a Savage 99

IMR 4064 is what I use for the 300sav. Seems to still be pretty easy to come by. You'll have a hard time finding Varget right now.

Also if you go to Hodgdon Reloading.com you can find all of the load combo’s that HODGDON has tested, for that round. Also includes the ft per sec in the rifle that is specified for each individual load.

Or go to one of the many online resources offered by the manufaccturers. Nosler, Hogdgon, Ram Shot ….. I have a load for 165 grain Interlock I think but at work so can’t check now

My Grandfather bought a featherweight 99 brand new in 50s.
He never liked it but I'm sure the problem was with the factory 180 grain Dominion ammo he was using.
That gun sat basically new on the wall until after he died in 80s because he always carried his thirty thirty.
Anyway that gun was very accurate. My uncle ended up with it and I got the 30/30.
I must have bought a dozen other 300 savages and hand loaded for all of them. Accuracy differs from one gun to another. I'm guessing they are like old Winchester's ,the throats and chambers vary in them? I never found one that shot as accurate as my grandfather's or that suited me. Maybe like Winchester Savage quality went up and down depending on year?

This is an interesting article. LE is what I use in my 99 because of this article and I am happy with the results.
