Default Deer Rifle

I am looking at a new deer rifle and can't make up my mind. My question is if given the choice between a remingtion in 264 win mag and a rem in 257 weatherby mag what would be the best option. the 264 is the Sendaro SF 2and the 257 is the CDL SF. would a 257 weatherby be better in a weatherby rifle. I reload so ammo is not a problem.

i wouldnt go with sendero, (had one 300wby) needs a gunboy to cart it around, especially if your the kind of fella who does a lot of walking. 15 lbs of rifle wore me out

p-nut,

id look at the cdl/264 and put a classy piece of 32mm zeiss glass and quality bases on her...it may cost you the same as mark 5 with a basic scope in the end.
plus the scope can change to a different rifle if you so desire at another time.
just a interesting thot

Roger is right.

The price of the new Mark 5 is steep.

What Roger said!

I have owned both rifles and I'd carry a CDL SF anyday over a Sendero. The SF is also a handsome gun and with the right scope, would be a very nice setup. The 257 Roy is a very interesting cartridge....I hope you reload though because you can't buy ammo for it just anywhere.

Isn't the 257 also available in the Vanguard? That would make for a more economical Weatherby option, Howa's are decent (from my experience with a S&W 1500 years ago).

Get the 264, you won't be undergunned for larger animals.
Roughly equivalent in energy, but better in momentum meaning better penetration on largest bullets for each:

257 is 57.0 lb-ft/s (S.D. = 0.260)
264 is 65.4 lb-ft/s (S.D. = 0.328)

for a difference of 15% in momentum. Hands down the 264.
