Default Eating stinging nettles

Well it’s the right time of the year, if you ever wanted to stuff your mouth full of nettles ....they’re about 8” tall and tender and yummy.

Note: wear gloves or a plastic bag on your hand when picking and cook in boiling water. Let them boil for a couple minutes to be sure the “stingers” are fully cooked. You’ll be happy you tried them!

Have heard of people eating these before. Personally, I never needed to eat a vegetable bad enough to try these.

If ya like spinach they are very similar. We usually pick them smaller, or just the top couple inches if the get half a foot high or so. Enjoyed some last night in fact.
And we usually just saute in butter.

You don’t have to boil them fist?

Well that’s good to know. I tried nettles once in Italy but they were puréed and in a sauce in pasta, not too pleasant actually and I think they must have been mature plants not young ones.

They are great! Super healthy as well.
Dried as a tea!
Also great fertilizer, even better combined with comfrey.
