Might be easier to get away with it in Iron River than a larger center, check your municipal laws

Default coyote

When you do, call the cops right away , tell them what you did and why.
Make sure you get the coyote so you have evidence that its in your yard in town.
Beat the neighbors to the call.
If for good reason and pet and child saftey, likely nothing will be done...no charges.

can this be in the running for the worst advice of the year??? Dear god man, you are telling a guy its ok to break a firearms law. Maybe he is competition for your hunting grounds and you are trying to free up some space. That will happen if he follows your advice.

You could just give your present dog away to a good home and feed said coyote while blessing another family with the joys of owning a dog.

No shots fired and everyone has a dog.

Dont be shooting anything in town.

The first cop might understand, but the second one who reads his report might not........

Way too much can go wrong.

Baseball bat the coyote to death if you want. But refrain from using a firearm.......

Just use a .22 with a subsonic round , unless your neighbours are on their deck or in their yard, they'll never hear it.

About the only gun you could get away with shooting at that coyote, would be a paintball gun. Maybe. I don't know. Teach it that your yard = pain.

Just make sure you have drinks and snacks for the Emergency response team, when it arrives. Took a couple of potshots, with my blank gun, at some dog, running through our yard, years ago. Cop knocked on the door about 20 minutes later. Showed him the blank gun and had a little discussion. End of story. Pretty scary what would happen, if you did that today.

Define "got away with". Do you mean the police came, saw what you did, and said "that's cool" and left? OR do you mean no one reported you?

Don't get too flustered and wound up about the scenario posed. It's pretty unlikely that it would ever happen in most towns. You see your dog being attacked by a coyote, so you go to where your firearms is securely and legally stored, then go to where your ammo is securely and legally stored, load your gun, go outside, and.... find the remnants of your dog? Most people would just take the closest broom or hockey stick and start swinging.
