Default Are the days of the dynasty over?

Since no team has repeated as Stanley Cup champs in 14 years, are the days of the dynasties such as Montreal, Edmonton, NY Islanders, and Red Wings over?

I would say yes. The salary cap has every team so close. Look at any team that made the play offs this year. If you give or take any two "superstars" from any of those teams and you change who wins the cup. If a team has two of those players and they don't show up to the play offs they wont go past round one, ie, Pens.

definitely they are. it's too hard with the current level of parity in the nhl. there was probably 16 teams capable of making a serious run at the cup at the start of the playoffs.

generally most of the teams in the playoffs and the ones that just missed are so close that there is very little seperating them. i could not imagine another team winning 5 in a row.

look at the nfl. with their level of parity the new dynasty plays in 5 super bowls in 9 years wins it 3 times and makes the playoffs 90% of the time, that's what a nhl dynasty looks like these days as well.

that's a mighty big dynasty includes flames, leafs, islanders, jackets, etc there are quite a few under achieving teams in what should be a pretty level playing field.

While anything is possible, the cap certainly puts one more hurdle to overcome in trying to put together a dynasty team. An extra two months of the toughest playing there is sure isn't conducive to repeating either.

We'll see in a couple years with the Oilers.

To win the cup makes for a long year of defending,,the next year the players are tired and the hunger is gone.
