Thumbs up Done seeding.....

The Cats travelled about 1450 miles each, we used 9000 gallons of fuel, about 1150 tonnes of fertilizer, buried about 8000 bushels of barley.....its a big job !! Took 4 weeks to the day.

Good picture. Hopefully the weather treats you and the rest of the farmers out there well this year!

Great pic. Wish you all the best in the upcoming season.

One question though...how do you like the 'tracked' Cats? I always assumes you'd be able to use them under wetter conditions, but maybe sacrificed some manueverability? Am I out to lunch here? They always looked very cool to me though.

Have a great season!

TreeGuy, you don't lose manuverability , you gain manuverability. Those things will spin a circle sitting still.

And we have some fairly serious hills and they handle them better than tires, IMO.

Bushmaster, you are very fortunate to be done seeding. Up in the Lacombe/Alix area there are still some fields that have not been combined yet from last fall. We are WET! We had 6-8" of heavy wet snow last Thursday & the fields are soggy. Been here for 35 years, farmed for 25 & do not remember being this wet ever in that time. I feel sorry for farmers here, it's getting pretty late & the risk of early frost in a year like this is not unheard of either.
Good luck ... get it in the bin & it'll be worth something this fall.

Unhappy Done seeding

Lucky guy. One farmer I know, near Three Hills still had 1400 acres to do, before our recent snowfall. The guy that does our place, just got last years green feed off. Now that the hay is growing, hopefully we'll have enough dry weather to get it off.

wow,
we only do about 1500-2000 acres a year, and it always seems like a big job, i couldnt even imagine all that. How many units do you have running with what drills?

KB, we run 2 Challenger 855MT's, pulling 59' Bourgault seeders.

Willy, the Cats have been good, except one had some electrical problems for 2 years....kept blowing the air conditioner....but no problems this year.

8000 bushels of barley
That'll make a few kegs !

Field next to me was just cultivated & rolled. Likely be planted in the next day or so ? Except for where the ducks are still swimming !

how do you make money when spending that kind of money on fuel and stuff? Thats insane. I never gave it much thought of what goes into being a farmer when my uncle had a cattle/pig/chicken operation out in Redwater.

Bushmaster - Hats off to you and your crew. Nobody around here is even close to being done.
How many acres did you put in?
Where are you at?

About 16,000 acres in the Provost area. Next big job is all mine....in-crop spraying.

Byt don't get me wrong....this isn't my operation....I'm just a lowly flunky machine operator.
