Norther bobcat
What a rush. 12 miles south of Valleyview. A magnificent animal and definitely a high point in a slow season

Got a picture up now, tried to rotate it but no luck. Just over 25 pounds, I think that's big but not sure.

Bob Cat
Dugh, well done, very nice lynx cat, nice spots, should get good price if you send to auction. Just too bad we do not have $1000 lynx cat prices these days.

Congrats! That sucker must have been lost! I've been watching those smaller US state auctions and lynx cat have sold for BIG bucks. The high at the recent Montana auction was +US$1100.
That looks to have a really nice belly so you might have just won the trapper's lottery.

Nice Doug I had heard a few weeks ago that someone in valley view caught one. I really don’t here them caught very often north of the Bow river.

Lynx Cat
Dave, Doug will sure enjoy that $1100 US price if it holds to FHA Auction. Doug how about cash price, no risk $500 Ca? 'Bird in Hand'

HaHa BGW, good one, that's a once in a lifetime catch. It's going on our wall, or maybe a rug along with a big tom lynx from this season. (if the taxidermist ever phones back). We got a very late start this year, but we caught some interesting stuff (2 raccoons in Sturgeon County). It's was a very good year for mange and lice less than 10%. Beaver soon hopefully.

Lynx cat
Good to see they may be spreading north in Alberta, may be result of warmer winters and lots of rabbits.

We had a bobcat spend 2 days hanging around our chicken coop about a month ago. You could get about five feet away from it at night but in the day light it was shy. Dog chased it away the second morning and it never came back. First one I have ever seen in the Hinton area. It was about the same time that the one was supposed to have been trapped. I asked around about that one, The guy that I heard caught it told me he had caught a cougar and F&W had not heard of a bobcat been caught.

Pretty far North for a bobcat! Nice markings and colour, too! Off the top of my head, I think 25 lbs. is pretty fair sized for a bobcat and decent size for lynx too. IIRC lynx just get a little bigger by a couple pounds. With all that fur, and long legs, you'd never guess that an animal that big is "only" 25 lbs.

Hopefully you don't have a problem keeping it. I have heard of issues with bobcat caught where there is no season. Stick to your guns and fight for it. They have no go reason to deny you the cat.
While a very pretty cat it would be more in the 100 dollar range than 1100. The cats that bring the big money not only have white bellies with spots but no orange just grey tones on the sides.

The main thing they determine price on is a wide white belly with spots is what I have found. If the belly has the brown come in on the flank or between the shoulders is greatly affects price. Alberta has bobcat that hit top price.

Accidental is accidental.. can't see why there should be a problem long as it's reported and registered with f&w
Those are the nicest cats of all far as I'm concerned. Someday maybe there'll be numbers enough for a season. I saw one single one many years ago in my neck'a the woods, never another though. With all the other normal ranges extending farther & farther north each year, I can't see why those wouldn't be increasing in numbers now too. So who knows. 25 years ago nobody thought Raccoons would become native here either.
Very cool catch

Beautiful catch ,.congrats
Love those belly spots ,dont blame you for keeping it , I kept my last one too . A FHA depot agent said 2 other locals sold theirs the same time I got mine and they went for over $700 and that was about 8 years ago so you never know what it would bring .

Bob cat
Dugh, now that 209 has graded your Bobcat I withdraw my $500 offer. Dave is probably referring to the horny Bobcat chasing a female lynx all the way to Valleyview. No problem now with F & W. PS thats why they are called Lynx cat.

I didn't grade his Bobcat! LOL I was just commenting on what I was told about my bobcat. A fellow from the u.s. state of Wyoming who buys fur and where they see lots of high-quality Bobcats. He said exactly what I repeated and told me that this guy even with it ultra white belly was in $80 cat. He was worth more as a mount to me.
*sigh* technology! Give me a minute to figure the picture thing out!

It's all legal. Bragging rights are all I was concerned about, that's pretty far north for bobs. I saw a picture of the bob from the Hinton area, it's pretty big.....................just not as big .
If you're at the Sportsmen's Show in Edmonton stop by the ATA booth.
