1 or 2 eyes open?
Do you shoot with 1 eye open or both? Rifle or shotgun?
Myself , I have trained myself and my son to shoot with both eyes open all the time. It really helped my freehand shooting and gives me a better field of view. Just curious is all.

Being left eye dominant and shooting right handed pretty well limits me to only having one eye open but I have trained myself to shoot with booth eyes open most of the time with a shotgun....at least on fast flying game.

If you are right handed and right eye dominant it will be easy to keep both open and you should. I am rt handed and left eye dominant and can keep both open with a rifle but not with moving targets/shotgun. I have experimented with fiber optic sights and a patch but it is not a happy marriage.

Both is correct for anyone (crap, I better add "In my opinion")except ppl dealing with eye dominence issues. Makes me wonder what all the silly fuss is about so called...Scout Rifles and scopes. I've seen ppl that I'm sure shoot with both eyes....closed. Doesn't work all that well.

Left eye closed, right eye aiming with a rifle and both eyes open with a pistol. Shotgun is either or, it depends what I'm shooting at.
Is there any advantage to keep both eyes open when shooting a scoped rifle in a hunting situation?

When using a scope the master eye problem goes out the window.
With irons, it is far more imortant, and the better competitive shooters I have met over the years shoot on their dominate eye side, but there are exceprions to every rule.
For me, it doens't matter if it is a bow, rifle shotgun, pistol, or a danged slingshot - both eyes open!

On a serious note I have had serious trouble figuring out his eye dominance on one of my kids. We do the normal tests and it seems left handed and left eye dominate. With a scope he is OK but I have had him on the archery range he says he is "on target" but I can see he is feet to the left. I susect shottie's are affected too.

His eye dominance may very well change as he gets a little older as well - my son's did.

Both eyes open on the pistol, I can shoot both open or one open on my scoped rifles, doesn't really seem to matter to me. On a long day of gopher shooting, (1000+ rds) I shoot both open or I end up with bad eye strain on the dominant right. On the 'one shot', I tend to close the left.

If I keep both eyes open, I see 2 barrels so I close my left eye.

Pines, I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of shooters on here are aware of how to test for eye dominancy......it's pretty basic stuff.

i shoot all my guns with noth eyes open. my buddy however is keft eye dominant and shoots right. with his scoped rifles its easy enough to make it work.....but when birdhunting he has to wear an eyepatch. you can imagine the grief i give him for it. its endless fun for me, and he cant seem to hit anything without it. i guess he just cant close that left eye without help.

Both eyes open for everything. I find it easier to pick up an animal in a scope in a hurry also.
