Default Feb. Fur sale vs. April Sale for coyote prices.

What are most of you guys doing, holding coyotes over till next Feb. or selling your coyotes in the April sale? Some guys claim pricing isn't as good as a rule in april vs feb sale? Thoughts....

With the research I have done the first sale usually does better. I have 25 yotes and a half dozen foxes and not really sure yet what I will do. The U.S Dollar is good for us now and it might change later. There is an extra 9%. Prices I can't see changing that much. The demand is there. I sold all but one skin. I would assume they would get sold. I will be taking muskrats and some beaver in for the sale so I imagine I will most likely send mine in as well.
The other thing to think about is that maybe a lot of guys are holding fur to see how this sale went and there might be an overabundance of fur as well. You never know till after what the best move is.

My marten in last years June sale did very well. All prime fur! I peaked with one at $230, with a 13 marten average of $165! Average of $205 on 5 lynx! Like I said this was at the June sale!

My thinking is sell em .. Sure the prices tend to be a touch weaker than the Feb sale , but look how much this Feb is lower than last years . Maybe next year they will drop again . Mine are already there for the April sale , a few dollars a piece isn't gonna make or break me . Who knows maybe they will even jump ?

Did better on our yotes last year on the spring sale avg wise. But only had 2 in the sale.

So better fur sells if the demand is there

Snared only 3 of mine , rest were shot . Some had some holes that required sewing but had none that showed as damaged on the grades . Prices for each was the same .

If you have furs ready,SHIP them. With holding over a year you risk being down graded as stale goods, unless your have a proper fur storage facility. It has been my experience, over many years, that in the long run you will average out better than holding over for possibly a better sale.

Yeah I am going to send them in. The $USD conversion is helping things out as well right now.

My take on it is that the coyotes are smoking right now, throw them in the sale. Typically the May sale is lower than the Feb sale, but we have seen some very strong May sales on coyotes in the last number of years. The fur market is fickle and by Feb next year, who knows where the coyote market will be. It looks good long term but all it takes to change is some form of serious international dispute or another monetary crisis in the world or some of these fragile economies crashing.

If you have 500 coyotes and you stand to gain 20% +/- by taking a chance holding it may amount to something, if you have 30 coyotes and you gain 20% by holding it won't amount to a lot, so then why take the chance? Do your math and see if it is worth it to you.
