Default Tikka .280 rem

So I've been throwing around the idea of possibly turning a tikka t3 in .270 win or 30-06 into a .280 rem. The thing is you never hear much about Tikkas being rebarreled... I really like the tikka t3s and have always had good luck with them shooting good and I'd really like one in .280 rem. Just wondering how doable it is and if anyone has any recommendations for a gunsmith to do it this winter. Thanks in advance!

280 use the same case so boltface and ejection port clearances....will be good...so you just need the barrel and a smith to chamber.

Heard a wise man once say, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing "Improved" .

I'm looking for detach mag and push feed action. And I've also thought about improving it. See what happens. Anymore gunsmith opinions?

Seems to be the consensus ^^ what are his time lines like? I know this fall is not happening but would spring bear season be unrealistic?

I'm pretty sure Winchester doesn't make the featherweight in 280 anymore. I have a 270 that I'm planning to turn into a 280 later on down the road, though.

There is a 30-06 featherweight for sale on here right now. That has the same bolt face at the .270 (technically, the .270 was derived by necking down the 30-06) and so you could use it for a .280 build.
I picked up a very nice pre-64 model 70 rebarrelled to .280 (bought it here on AOF a couple of years back).
Good luck
Hawkeye

Time lines ... the job itself does not take long ... Getting the "stuff" together is the biggest challenge. If you get lucky, someone might have the barrel you want in stock. You will need to find a Smith with the reamer you want, so that may limit your choices. When I do my part, the smith I use seldom has my stuff in his shop for more than two weeks.
