Gas Prices
Today in Chilliwack, BC you can get a liter of regular gas for $ 1.55 /liter give or take a couple of cents at different stations. And prices have decreased also in other municipalities too in BC. In Calgary and Medicine Hat prices may have decreased by two cents/liter. Why is that? There is easily more provincial taxes in BC so there should be a 20 cents per liter advantage to Alberta. However, we do not see that reflected in gas prices charged to Albertans. It makes no sense to me.

In the past rack prices went up first in Chicago so one new prices were rising.

Not sure if that still holds true.
In B.C., I believe the new pipeline was to ship fuel to Vancouver and that it would alleviate the shortages there.

What bothers me more is them Americans are paying around 90 cents/liter for their gas using our Alberta discounted Western Select oil and we are still paying upto $1.60/liter. PS And Trump is complaining he will reduce the high price of American gas.

If the price of Canadian gas was the same as the us. The Canadian economy would boom.

US price actually $1.26 a litre with exchange rate.
Do I think we are over paying sure but we have to compare apples to apples

In Prince Edward Island, the price is the same island wide. As of a couple of days ago it is $1.669. And before that it was $1.739. Everywhere.

Don't forget to let the masses know why... Because Gov't said so.
All of Atlantic Canada is regulated, either by max price or min/max.

Heavily regulated place. A shining example of how not to do things.
Non residents must apply for permission to buy property and then are charged a taxation level of 1.5 what residents pay. To add insult to injury, during COVID, non resident homeowners weren’t allowed on the island and Islanders supported it.
The way Islanders have empowered the government is scary.

I gas up at Shell as they offer 3c/ litre if you swipe your Caa card and 2c/ litre when you swipe your air miles card.

I say the Alberta government does this for all employee's that fly into Alberta for work in Ft. Mac or anywhere else here and 2x for Quebec resident's. They don't want our oil but they don't mind working here!

Homestead, why would I calculate Canadian gas price using an American dollar. The Alberta oil is produced by Albertans payed Ca$, Oil Service companies payed Ca$, Oil field tools manufactured in Nisku using Ca$.
I repeat we pay $1.60/liter for gas produced from lowest priced WES oil in world and them Americans only pay less $0.90/ liter for gas produced from same oil.

Middle/North side of Sherwood Park - $1.479-$1.549/L
South side of Sherwood Park - $1.349/L
13-20 cent swing in 3-8km. Make it make sense.

How much of the 1.60 or .90/litre is tax. Figure that out and you'll have your answer.

A big whack of the price is tax. In Alberta, per litre of gas there is 10c federal excise tax, 13c provincial excise tax, over 14c of carbon tax plus 5% GST on the total (yep taxes on taxes). After that transportation variances based on locations, marketing costs based on location, margins between the extractors, refiners and retailers all taking there cut plus some good old fashioned supply and demand.
I think the biggest difference though between Canada and the USA is the taxation differences. That is why gas stations on reserves are generally cheap than off reserve too.
