Ice Fishing Shelter
Hey everyone, just looking for some input as to what kind of tents you all use?? Im talking about portable either flip style or hub style tents. Im looking to spend a few hundred but dont want to break the bank to bad. Any info would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks for your time and have a safe ice season!!

A few hundred won't buy ya a lot. Kijiji and the buy and sell here have a few listed at not bad prices.
If you want a 2 man then buy the 4 they are always way over rated as to how many guys can fish out of them.
A couple hundred should get you a decent one here on AO or kijiji

Any pros and cons do you know of when comparing the flip up or hub style?? Also any brands i should stay away from or anything?? I could probably convince the wife to allow me to push price up a bit but it would depend on what I find. Thanks again.

The flip style may not be something your wife would want to go in. You sit on the chair in the dark which is a good thing, but maybe not for all.
The hub or pop up go together very easy and fast. They offer you much more room as well as a few more windows, not so closed in.
The pop up is very portable and easy to store where the other is all enclosed in it's own sled which also takes up room for the 9 or so months that you are not fishing.
Just a few things to think about.

Flip style more expensive. Less room per foot print(have sled inside).
flip to me more mobile on the ice. Flip up and move.
Pop up more versatile to how you want to seat anglers and gear(sled is outside/separate)or you can carry with the shoulder strap. Pop up you add your own seats(fold ups or buckets), and your own sled(optional). They are lighter weight as well.

Flip over shacks are smaller, heavier, more expensive and huge to store in the off season. The only benefit is being more mobile than a pop up shack. If you're not sure what style you want, get a pop up shack. If you wanted and could afford a flip over style, you'd already know it.

I have this one, big enough, light in weight and doesn't take up room when storing. Put a heater in here and it's like heaven

I've got a Eskimo quick fish 6. I've had it for two seasons and its been great. Cabelas has had them on sale around Christmas for the last two yrs. I believe they were around 320. The only thing to watch for is when taking it down don't pull on the tent if it is frozen in the ice they will tear at the seams. Had a frabill before had issues with the rods popping out of the hubs and the black material on the inside flaking off after a few outings. I'm looking at getting the big fatfish pop up tent as three guys, a heater, two sonars and a camera fills the tent. But two people there is alot of room in the quickfish.

The picture on the box does the tent a disservice, it actually becomes more cube than triangular.

Hub style (cube) is a good choice as it holds great against heavy winds, and they come assembled out of the box!
Eskimo, Ice Cube or a hub style hunting blind works too (and cheaper). The downside to the hunting blind is that there isn't a flap along the bottom to seal out the wind. Just have to shovel more snow to seal it up.

Ice fishing tents have come down in price, There is an eskimo package in the current CT flyer $249 for a 4 man tent, sled and chair.

I have a flip over plywood and canvas style portable. I have had several tents but will never go without a floor again. They are heavy, but great. Setup is very fast, my footprint is 4x8' 6' tall so lots of room, teardown and in truck in less than a minute.
My permanent one is a 6'x8' metal one made out of prefab panels on skis. HEAVY but should work very well.
I dont think I will use the portable much this winter, the thought of getting out of the truck into the shack with no setup excites me
Now is I could just design a solar system to keep the hole from freezing over when I'm not there.......lol

make a donut like plug out foam core and scrap shiny sheet metal,, or do like the other guy said on another thread and cover the hole with wood chips.
