Default First ice brookies

Made it out to a small brookie pond for some early ice brookie fishing. about 3" of ice, kinda patchy though. It couldn't hold the quad either yet. Only fished about 1.5 hrs during the afternoon as we were deer hunting. It's always fun site fishing though. Still not great ice but it was OK to setup the tent and heater and sit there together with a buddy. It was pretty solid, no white ice, hardly any snow on it either. They'll be on the smoker tonight!

Very nice. Never caught a brookie, looks like lots of fun.

Nice fish, that's one of the species I plan on knocking off my list this year on hard water. Was that in zone ES1 that you caught them?

After falling through 2 inches of ice, I'd have to say I don't have the guts yet to go out in 3 inches unless the water was only 3 feet deep.

It was ES2. Another pond with rainbows in the area had 4" of ice, but didn't fish it.
