Chet's Archery Muley
I was able spend a fair bit of time looking for Mule Deer this fall and filmed my friend getting a really nice buck with a muzzleloader. Eventually I got a good opportunity with my bow and was able to get this guy. I am really happy with him.

Nice Buck!
Do you happen to know where his twin brother is living in the 400? I'm still waiting to fill my tag.
Great job!

Thanks for all kind comments. Sorry I didn't post much of a story... had to get caught up on emails and voicemail and all the other stuff I get to escape from when hunting.
I was hunting the WMU that I grew up in and I had really hoped to have a chance at a good buck with my bow because I think it may be the last good chance out there. Although extensive testing for CWD has been done on deer killed in that WMU, no positives have ever been found in it but SRD chose to issue CWD tags over and above the normal draw allotment for the WMU which will result in a large increase in the Mule Deer harvest in this zone. It has produced some great Muleys over the years and after hunting in it all my life I was very sad to see the management strategy change so dramatically but in SRD's defence, there was CWD positives found in the zones to the north and south over the last couple years so obviously it is an area of concern. To be honest Deer hunting around my farm has been kind of depressing for the last couple years. The deer hunting is as good as it has ever been but every time you see a nice group of deer, you can't help but wonder if they will be wiped out by CWD culling in the coming months. This post is not meant to question the governments CWD strategy.... just to express how I feel about what is going on in an area that I have been hunting or tagging along on hunts for over 30 years. I feel really crappy about it. When I was a kid my Dad shot a buck that was about 150" gross near where I shot this one. A lot of people came to see it because a 150" deer 25 years ago out there was very rare due to the management practices at the time. Now there are several 150 class bucks and many bigger and the deer population seems strong and healthy. CWD is changing everything and I hate to see what is happening because of it.
I set out hunting this year with the goal of getting a real mature Mule buck with my bow. I have taken a few good bucks with my rifle and my bow over the years but none of my archery bucks have been what I would consider a truly mature buck. It was getting down to the nitty-gritty with only a few days left in archery season and a 1 month old baby, 4 year old girl and an understanding wife that all would rather see me at home than chasing Mule Deer with sharp sticks. My brother spotted this buck bedded down in a decent spot for a stalk. I used the wind and got in to reasonable range. When he got up he presented a "quartering to" shot and I made it count. I felt that my shot was good but I watched him run apx. 200 yds over the hill. I could see my arrow buried to the ribs and l could see it was in a good spot. I gave him 45 mins before taking up the trail. Because of the angle and my arrow breaking a rib and deflecting rearward, I only got one lung but he was dead not far over the hill I watched him crest. I was really happy to get him. I hope it isn't the last chance I have at a big Mule deer in my "home territory".

Great buck Chet. I really like the character. Well told story too. Easy to sympathize with how you feel. Like you said, hopefully you'll be able to take many more mature bucks from around home.

way to go chet, i think you may have killed a cousin or relative of a buck i shot down that way a couple years ago. he had the same distinct sticker hook on the left (his left), it also didn't have the second fork to it on the right. never now somewhere down the line he may have played around with this guys mom, or even they could be brothers
cheers
