Default .22 Suggestions

I am looking to buy a .22

What would you guys suggest??

I was thinking of either a CZ 452 ZKM American.

Or the Savage Mark II BTVSS

http://www.savagearms.com/markiibtvs.htm

I know a lot of you guys shoot the CZ, but I read an article in Feild and Stream that said the Savage was the most accurate rimfire they ever tested. One guy got less then 1/4" groups at 50 yrds (or Meters, can't remember).

I was also thinking of the cheaper Marlin 925. Simply because I had a similar one as a kid that I could hit a rabbits eye from 40 yrds using iron sights.

Any suggestions?? Thanks

I have a CZ 22 mag that I just love. Deadly accurate, just a dream to shoot. I just bought a savage 22LR last saturday and I am really enjoying getting the bugs out of it, seems to be accurate, my biggest problem is I have 1500 rounds of cheap ammo for it and I think it is causing me to miss alot. I am starting to think the cheapest ammo at walmart may not be the way to go.JMO

I have a CZ 452 "sillouette" .22LR with about a 3/4 lb trigger on it.

Using Lapua subsonic ammo i dropped 25 out of 30 shots into a 3" circle at a 100 yrds using a 14" holdover. The gun was zeroed for 50 yrds using the Federal bulkpak ammo. I also was rushing the shots as I didn't want to take any of the Lapua ammo home.
The gun shows great consistancy even with a cheap Bushnell scope on it. I'm pretty sure I'll be putting a far better scope on it.

Now, on the other side I have a Savage bolt gun in .204. Not in the same league I know but..I'll never sell the Savage. Savage M77 MkII "Target" Deadly accurate

The best 22LR on the market IMO is the 77/22

If you are talking semi-automatics (because you just can't shoot a gopher just once), is the Ruger 10-22. They are stupid reliable and you can customize them so many different ways you can make them truly unique for whoever owns one.

We have both the CZ and the Savage in our house.

The fit and finish of the CZ is pretty hard to beat, nice trigger, and it shoots it's prefered ammunition very well.

My Daughter has a Savage Mark II with the Accutrigger, it too shoots it's prefered ammunition very well, the Accutrigger is a very good innovation.

So it pretty much boils down to some esthetics, and $$

Have fun choosing

The Ruger M77/22 bolt action in stainless is also worth looking at. If you could find an Anschutz 64 MP R Multi Purpose in Canada that would be a great choice as well;

the Savage Mark II BTVSS is an EXCELLENT rimfire, I have it and pick gophers off no prob out to 100yards with a 3-12 scope and bipod. The key is decent ammo the Savage seems to really like Win Power Point ammo. The price just went up from 380 to 480 but other that it's still a great gun especially if you want an adult fit.

Actually your Savage likes that ammo.

My daughters Savage prefered another brand.

Even rifles with consecutive serial numbers may show Jeckel and Hyde prefrences to ammo.

That's why one must find out what works best in their rifle.

Funny how with the Canadian dollar dropping and the huge demand for firearms in the USA, that Savage followed suit with the other manufacturers and jacked up their price. Savage rimfires are, after all, made in Canada, and should have not been affected by any of that nonsense. Gouge-O-rama anyone? But yes I do own a Savage MKII and it is a reliable and accurate rifle.

Look no further than how many advertisments you see for Savage in their many publications, very few, if any rimfires shoot their best group fresh out of the box. FS

The Weatherby Mark XXII is also a fairly good price considering you get an Anschutz built model 64 action with a premium stock. Last one I saw at a gun show already had a sold sign on it and it went for top dollar for a used rifle.

Default Hey Faststeel.

I don't quite understand what you are saying. Are you knocking Savage or supporting. I have not noticed advertisements in magazines, but will start to look. Are you saying lots of ads are a good thing or bad??

And do rimfires shoot their best groups out of the box and get progressively worse??

I am not fixed on a SS barrel. I want a tack driver that I can pass down to my young ones in a few years time.

Thanks for all the info. I am still undecided. I will have to go take a look in person and see how they stack up I guess.

The CZ is a beauty, but the Savage bull barrel is the best bang for buck. They handle well and the price is reasonable if you shop around. They can be picked up for about $350 to $400.

Lots of ads cost lots of money. Price needs to go up to pay for the ads.

Price a good gun too cheap and no one will buy it - therefore price must go up to develop of perception of legitimacy.
