Whatever I feel like carrying at the time. Anything big enough for deer is big enough for black bear.

my close quarters rattle rifle is a ruger frontier in 300wsm with a 16" bbl.
besides being 2" shorter overall than a ordinary 10/22 it is ignorant, recoily, loud and will should work nicely if something needs to ventilated in heavy cover.

If you are hunting via spot and stalk, choose any of the above, if you are hunting via baiting then I would use a 12 gauge slug, nothing like watching them flip right over with a slug, I did a stalk on a bear walking down a cut line coming to me, I got in place and he walked right into 15 yards, the slug flipped him backwards, and he was dead dead and weighed about 200 - 250 pounds

Thats my vote

I only hunt bears by spot and stalk, my .257 Weatherby works perfectly for that kind of hunting.

This year I'm going to try my Sako 85 300 win mag with 180 grain bullets (Nosler). Now just have to wait for dandelions.

If you were taking the 270win, what type of bullets would you choose? Just picked up some factory Federal ammo. 150g soft point round nose. (not hand loading yet). What would you suggest for factory ammo.

I'd use nosler partition 140 grain, I don't see the point of going any higher.

If it is suitable for deer it's suitable for Black bear.
